Ron, i’ve Chased more of those safety springs and ball bearings than I care to admit lol. I use a big freezer bag to do all that in now.... that solved it..... so far.

Gonna try for a little distance shooting with the 1977 tomorrow, then again, the fish are getting started good.... maybe both if i’m Lucky!
Leonard, you mentioned putting a Winchester 4x32 AO scope on yours... that’s what I have on mine now. Balances great with just a bit more weight. Is it just me, or would a 22 version of this rifle be great? Maybe 650, 700 FPS. With 14.3 gr.?meehhh, make it 750 FPS. stock! Everybody seems to like the lightness of the gun.Has there been no consideration given to dong the"tube of silicone in the stock" trick ??I may try fitting a metal receiver to mine just for grins.
I kinda think that the 1977 has to have a stiffer spring between the trigger and sear inorder to open the valve against the higher pressure from the HP piston and abutment.A softer spring may leave you with a pumped up gun which wouldn't fire..........So you can smooth things up and shorten the pull, but the stronger spring may need to remain.......
After work I went back to the store where I got both my winchesters. They have 2 on the shelf but the price is now $89.99. They had some daisy dial a pellets with the flat nose, pointed and round head so I got him one of those for now.
