Don't do this mod, if you love this pistol beyond wildest dreams. This was a scientific wild arsed guess in a bored moment. It works, so I'll leave it at that.

today:
I shot at a gopher that I couldn't see, from about 2" outside of his hole (barrel distance from hole), as it was pushing dirt out of its hole.
I dug the hole out preemptively, and waited. By the time I got the P-Shooter cocked and loaded, it was pushing up dirt. I let loose, and barely skimmed the top of the dirt that it was pushing.  The mounding stopped. I can't say for certain, but at 2" out, and barely skimming dirt, it either ate lead, or got a lead enema if it was backing dirt out.

Mike, thank you so much for your detailed explanation. My understanding is that

1. You can use aluminum tape on piston head to increase the speed. But you are using JB Weld to do the same thing to push it to the limit

2. The sole purpose of aluminum balls were to determine the true diameter of the cylinder and the gap or clearance between the piston head and the stop within the cylinder

3. You used the blue tape to match closely to the diameter of the cylinder without going over

4. Put JB Weld (after making it more fluid with alcohol) on the head of the piston, to match the diameter defined by the blue tape, and the thickness based the clearance determined with the aluminum balls

5. Not clear to me how did you control the perimeter of the JB Weld because it is fluid.

5. You set the piston head level so the JB Weld can self level, aided by hair dryer heat

6. Put in a new o-ring and then bang bang

The ONLY thing I hate more than Sunday deliveries is Sunday deliveries that are not delivered until Monday!  ARRRGHHH!!!!

pre-coffee hour on this slept-in sunday morning, here on the left coast.

 Dinh is exactly right.
The tape is in multiple layers, and is pulled very tightly to the sides of the piston.  The blue masking tape has slight elastic quality about it, when pulled it resists and pulls back slightly. That leaves a lot of tension around the edge, that creates a retaining wall, and well, for the epoxy.

I'd say for now, watch me destroy mine, and see if its a direction that you want to go.
In about a half hour, I'm rolling into town to hit the hardware spring drawers and will keep the thread updated.

The new topic,... Other Things I've Done With JB-Weld, or, How Much Do I Love To Tweak Things?

dscn2558, is a very small, very high-fidelity, $700, two channel stereo microphone preamplifier. You're looking at the back side, the stereo output side of the preamp.  That output is the same connector as most headphone earbuds, small three conductor jack.
I needed to create a custom right angle connector, so that this device could be body worn, without worry for the output cable.
I did extensive masking with blue tape, mixed and poured, and then fretted for the next 12 hours, until I could open it all up, and see if I had destroyed it, or created it.

dscn5260, 5269 are the finished item, in place, and exposed.

IMG_1207, 1208, 1209 are a 1963 Bogen-Presto B51 record player that I mounted onto 150lbs of soapstone plinth base, in an Art-Deco design sense.
It is done in a design ethic that drastically reduces open areas under the main top plate.  I also designed in main roational bearing support.
This is an extremely customized hot-rod of a recod player to play my record that I started buying in the late 60's (still have them by the 1000's), and one of 8 customized players here.
JB-Weld was used in all of the laminations.  It grasps soapstone so hard that it creates fresh fractures in the soapstone, rather than to part. It is better than new soapstone!

Has anyone done any mods to reduce pumping effort?  I don't care about power in these pistols, and I think I will have better results getting my wife or young nephews to shoot with me if it was easier to pump.

Scopes make them easier to close.
Smoothing the sharp edges of the 11mm rail and the back sight helps.
Experience and practice helps with loading the pellets and closing the gun.
Using a glove on your closing hand will help.
I close with the meaty part of my left hand on the smoothed rear sight and the gun laying on my thigh and my right hand on the pistol grip.

Instead of building the piston up, you can grind a dish into the center of it to reduce cocking effort and fps.  If you go too far, you can fill it back in as much as needed with epoxy.

I shot probably 500 pellets using open sight in the past three days. I will try to get 9nly power up. I bought 8 this time so I can afford to have powerful ones as well as easy to covk 9nes

The person I gifted the last of the first order of 4 guns to dropped his within minutes of receiving it and broke the red fiber optic in the front sight.

Can this be replaced?   The sight itself is intact.  Only the red fiber optic piece broke and half of it was lost.

Not a really big deal for the new owner (he says), but it got me curious.
