So, crazy question here...is it possible to replace the .177 barrel of the p17 for a .22?  Looks easy to remove but I’m not sure the power it has would agree with larger pellets.

I havent done it, but others have converted it to a .22 and longer barrel...

You sure can. Probably the easiest way to do it yourself is to use a Crosman barrel with the transfer port cut off. Taper the rifling to allow easier loading and polish the end for a good seal. It is a good idea to inspect the crown and do any work needed. Drill out hole in the "slide" to accommodate the larger barrel. You'll need to create a turned down portion like the stock P17 barrel has. I did this by chucking the barrel in a drill and turning it against a 1" belt sander.

If you get the seal right, you can get at least an extra 1 to 1.2 foot pounds of energy.

Thanks Geo.  Finally got to convert my P17 to a .22 and I’m loving it.  Very accurate and fun gun to shoot. 
I did use a crosman barrel and had to mod a few things but it worked out fine.

Yes, .22 barrel.  I had to drill out (7/16” drill bit) where the .177 barrel was to make room for the new one and sand off a small chunk out this part so the gun could open properly when cocked.

Gotcha. I mistakenly thought that you had to do some modification because you updated to the larger caliber.

Seems Mrod sold a pistol similar to the P17 that came with a .117 barrel and a .22 barrel.

I have no way to measure it, might buy a chrony in the future but who knows when.

i converted a few to 22, 25 cal and 30 .. Some kept the pumper configuration, in 22 cal you need all the stars to align to get 400fps

needless to say , as an SSP it wouldnt move the pellet in 25 or 30 format.

Wow. That's taking the P17 to the next level.

Do you have to charge it after every shot or does the tank retain enough pressure for multiple shots? If so, do you have to pop the slide to cock it or have you modified the cocking mechanism as well?

Do you have a build thread, or a link to some of your stuff?

it was very basic.. I pulled the airtube off , then drilled and tapped the valve inlet hole.. The gun is very limited on power because the seat of the poppet rests right where the transfer port is for the barrel.. Cocking it in this config is annoying , open the top slide as usual and grab the front of the air tube , pull it manually till you hear the click. Load pellet, push back down , and yes the gun fires like a dump valve regardless of the tank size.The spool valve they use will stay naturally open as long as the air is flowing past it , quite brilliant for the application really. I dont think i have a build thread, But i did post a thread accompanied by video last yr when i made this one. Ill see if i can find my old thread, the videos are on youtube ..

My P22 has the JB Weld stuffed piston, the slotted piston top, felt wiper and polyurethane o-ring, per Wyoman's thread.  I'm getting 373 fps on 13.4gr JSBs, and 346 fps on 15.9gr JSBs (4.1 FPE & 4.2 FPE).  I chronied one shot of H&N Excite 12.8gr wadcutters at 382 fps.  Not sure what I'd do to pick up the extra 20 fps.  It has to be there somewhere...

My P22 is a lot easier to load than the P17!  I'll make another P22 this winter with an LW .22 barrel.  Bought the LW just for this purpose.  The second time around I hope will be easier, as I made a whole lot of mistakes the first time.  It didn't help that I was learning to use a lathe simultaneously.  Still have 3 more $7.50 P17's to play with... 

Stock P17 chronied at 406 fps with Crosman Premier 7.9 gr at 2.9FPE.
