Well she is still leaking ... I will do a balloon test next ... I can't believe its the poppet and I will be very surprised if it is !

OK, I did the balloon test ... and the balloon filled up ..... I do have a poppet leak after changing the poppet three. I will make another poppet out of white Delrin and see if that works.

I'm starting to get annoyed big time.;-)

I may have figured out the problem .... if I not so good on the end of the poppet, air is coming through. I think air is leaking around the stem and then out. The poppet may be closing tight but air is leaking through the top around the c-clip, down the shaft and then out !

I will make another poppet with a slightly smaller hole to see if that holds. I will also fill the poppet hole with epoxy ... that may do the trick ?

What size hole do you drill, about a .155 for a tight fit.

I bet you just solved your problem, air leaking around the poppet stem. Hard press fit with epoxy seal should do the trick. Keep us posted.

Made a new poppet out of 5/16 white Delrin. I drilled out the thickest part to .155 and the shaft to .113. I pressed them in using a big machine vice. I could not get air to pass between the poppet shaft when blowing on it very hard. We will see what happens when it is installed tomorrow ;- )

well if it doesnt help. there is another solution.

get rid of the c clip. and make a cap poppet sealed with epoxy to get rid of the possible air escape route in the center.

Yep, that is on the horizon if this poppet does not work.

Took apart the gun this am and installed the newer all Delrin poppet. Checked the old one and could not find a leak between the poppet shaft and the Delrin ?

Took the air cylinder off, and Teflon taped the long threaded area. there was lots of gap between the threads in this area and it took about 5-6 full wraps of Teflon tape to give it a little bit of friction screwing it in, I applied silicone oil on the "O" ring and screwed it in tight.

I did not put the 4mm steel ball in the release area, as I can easily do that at a later date.

I will put about 3000 psi in her when I get home and see what happens, I'm very interested in seeing if the 5/16" diameter poppet works, I would think that since it has a good bit less diameter, air may pass around it faster, I don't know ?

I will report back later today or early tomorrow.

After an hour the balloon looks like it has taken in a very, very small amount of air. I fired a couple of test shots and she has not leaked in about a half hour or so, I have my fingers crossed. This poppet was made with smaller poppet shaft holes then my black Delrin poppet and the press fit was darn tight ... I did not use epoxy on this poppet.

Have again made some poppets that look like this one in this thread but will add epoxy in the inside and around the poppet shaft grooves. The new poppets are smaller yet on the inside diameter so they will need to be press fit in very, very hard. The end of the shaft does stick out enough for the small c-clip to fit in the grooves. (The c-clip just barley fits in) !

I have also Teflon sealed this gun in the threaded area of the air tank just for more insurance in case this was the problem too.

I will wait another hour to see if she has shown any signs of leaking, I will fire a couple more test fire shots and then refill to 3000 let her sit to see if a leak developed over night ... If not I'm home free.

My Syn stocked liberty #1 that I take out in the field most of the time has a very, very, very slow leak, and it just may come from the air cylinder connection area, but again I did not do a balloon test on that gun, so it may be the poppet.

Overnight she leaked from 3000psi down to 1000psi ... not as bad as before but not good ;- (

I will fill her up to about 3600, and fire about 10 test shots to to get her down to about 3000 psi and let her sit the rest of the day ..... If she goes down about 500 or so psi I know I'm on the right track and the poppet is starting to seat, If she is down significantly more, I will fill her up, test fire about 10 shots again but will start to work on another poppet as this poppet probably will not hold air.

There are no seals that should be using Teflon tape. You will probably just going to cause more issues down the road, as the fine threads of tape find there way into the valve and other areas.

Just got home and filled to 3600 psi, I then shot 20 shots, refilled to 3000 psi and will let it sit ..... if this does not work I will use another poppet. If that does not work I will take apart the valve to see if any of those "O" rings are bad. The other thing is to try to find some very hard rubber, somewhere in hardness between Delrin and the rubber that was in the original poppet

I'm just about fit to be ties with this gun for sure !

The poppet Duy made for me was out of delrin and doesn't leak any.

i posted a picture of that poppet in the long thread. the way i machined it, i didnt even polish it after. true your delron and use carbide to cut the face of the poppet. polish if needed.

make a cap poppet like i suggested. do it once and be done

I filled the gun and put the balloon on the barrel, the balloon has not filled but I lost about 200 psi..... the leak may be from a hidden area ..... maybe around the air filling area I don't know ?
