SCBA Tanks

Looking at these and i am struggling with the money they want for them. Is there a source for reasonably priced tanks anywhere? The 3 liter IORMAN does not seem like a bad deal but it looks like their valves may have issues. Suggestions?

My first 45 min. SCBA I paid $85. It came all the way from California. Hydro tested with 7 years of life left. My second 60 min. SCBA I paid $125 for. So prices do vary, shop around. I have my own compressor, hence the expired SCBA purchase. Good luck.

Hi Warren, I have three 30min and one 60min scba tanks, they are all expired but I have a compressor. I remove the valves every now and then and look for signs of moisture or damage. the 30min went for 35.00 shipped and the 60 I gave 74.00 shipped and it still has a year before exp. date. I have kept them all at 4500 for a couple of years, I had to replace a valve on one because it leaked when the valve was open, cost 14.00 on ebay. Now I see where for x-amount of $ they will re-certify them since the laws have changed. Most scba companies now sell refurbs at a substantial savings, worth looking into if you don't do ebay. This may not be for everyone but what I do. I have also got a couple 110in paint ball tanks used from paint ball stores for a hundred bucks ea. Later cave

okay that is what i was hoping to hear. i have friend that can help with the testing and my be able to recertify the bottles. can you fill the bottles from one of the smaller compressors if you take your time and follow their temperature and runtime restrictions? what type are you using?

I've got a 45min tank and fill it up to roughly 4200-4400 using a yong hang compressor. Do about 20 min runs and let it cool for 15. Itll do the job just has to be baby sat.

Hey Warren!

Pyramyd Air used to sell "Life Extended Carbon Fiber Tanks" on their website but I couldn't find them just now when I checked.

If you're patient you may be able to find a used scba tank on ebay with some life left.  You want to find one within 15 years of the manufacture date to have it hydro tested and filled commercially.

I bought two used 30 minute tanks this way.

They replace them regularly.

I have 2 of the 1 hour Drager SCBA tanks that I bought for $100 each about 4 years ago and they both will be expiring in December of this year, fortunately last year I bought an F10 Shoebox and it is keeping them topped off very well

I did not check the hydro dates etc, I got 3 scba tanks for here,
all were just about perfect, just minor scratches, and a ton of dirt on them etc.

I made my own fill adapters for mine also, I made one for filling the tank only and another for charging up my pcp's.  I was going to the dive shop to get mine filled however the shop that I went to isn't there anymore and I ended up getting me an F10 Shoebox (love that little compressor) last year.

Hey guys,
  I have my own compressor & I’ve found 2 good sources for SCBA cylinders.

1. Enterprise in Canada has tanks with anywhere from BNIB to 2 years left. You pay, they hydro right then & there & send. Great prices for hydro included.

2. Local fire station has just gotten all brand new cylinders. Thus, all are available. 30min 44cf Scott pacs that any money made goes directly to fire station. If anyone is interested I can put you in contact with the chief himself.

So just bought my first PCP and looking at Tanks now. So is buying a local retired (but less than 15yo) tank and your own compressor the way to go? a local tank and chinese compressor seems to be way less than the 400-800 I am seeing for 4500 CF tanks from the commercial shops.

Do you need to then get the scuba tank fill port setup, or can you just DIY that too?

I really like those Scott valves that are on both of my Dragers, very easy to control when filling a gun.
