Scrap Iron

Going to the local recycler is not the place you might go to to buy your next air gun. But it happened today to me. Went to sell a little Aluminum and copper. Seen a pellet gun by the scale leaning against the wall. Had to ask about it. Guy told me it was sold for scrap iron and it didn't work. I asked him if it was for sell. He told me i'd have to ask the guy in the office (the owner). So while checking out I asked him about the air gun. He asked which one. I don't think he had seen it or knew it was there. I told him where it was and asked if he had more. He said no, but they get them every now and then. He asked what I would give him for it? I said $5. He said OK. He probably paid less than a quarter for it. What it is is a Crosman 2200 Magnum. Pretty good looking condition. Some rust on the barrel. But not much. Still has the label on the stock that says, "Notice: One of the Worlds Most Powerful Air Guns. Obey Shooting Safety Rules". Another label was on the barrel that said: "something? barrel". It's missing the emblem on the pistol grip on the stock and the little slide on the sight to adjust the elevation up and down. Seems to get it to work it will just need new seals. A review on 'Pyramid Air' says they were top of the line in their day for one that can be pumped up. O' almost forgot to mention, the receiver is Chrome. Cool little air gun. I left the guy giving him my name and phone number. He said he would let me know if he gets any more and that he will set them aside for me. Not what expected going in there. He was happy and I'm happy. Moral of the story: If you are interested in old air guns and projects, let your local recycler know. You never know what might turn up. I can only dream of him calling me up and going in there to find a Red Ryder with copper bands or even something even rarer. Probably won't happen, but I can dream. It could happen.

Great deal for $5, I don't know about being top of the line for a pumper compared to a Sheridan streak or Benji 342 but I've heard great things about these guns.
I'm sure it is a good gun.

OK, I went back and looked. What Pyramid said was, "If Crosman still sold it, I believe it would give the Daisy 22SG a run for its money." So maybe not top of the top. LOL

With some E.Gillman wood furniture it just might.

I'd definitely not hate to own a crosman model 1 or this more deluxe 22 magnum, they're not at the top of my list but at $5 I'd feel like I had won the lottery for sure.

This is more a story of the acquisition than the gun. I didn't ask him about what he has done with the ones he had gotten in the past. Probably just ground them up with every thing else. And probably just mostly junk. But you never know. Some might been rare. Others might had good parts. Like I said, let your Recycler know and see what happens.

I had one guy at an estate sale pull an old self cocking 760 out of a dumpster and gave it to me.  He thought it was broke because the bolt didn't have spring pressure. He wouldn't take money for it when I offered.
I cringe at the thought of all the classic guns bulldozed at the landfill.
