Narrowed down my next rifle to the 95/R9 or the SIG ASP 20. Spent most of yesterday watching reviews and reading all of the search posts from our forum. Thinking of 22cal. A lot of comments on the 95 were how a lot of pellets were difficult to seat with the .22cal HW95/R9 ?? Because of the power of the SIG the .22cal is said to be smoother (by SIG ). Not looking to hunt with either. Waiting to see what the SIG combo will sell for when released. Also AOA comes out with some great specials. I usually buy 1 rifle a year so I research every bit of information I can (I enjoy the research) I could go either way with the HW95/R9 .177 or .22. Looking forward to comments.

I have a .22 HW95, and I really like it. The consensus seems to be that Weihrauch has been making their .22 barrels a bit on the large side for the last few years. That is definitely the case with mine. It shoots 5.55 mm Field Target Trophies exceptionally well. However, JSB 5.52 mm pellets feel loose and inconsistent and don't shoot nearly as accurately out of my gun.

I highly recommend the HW95, but there is the possibility that it will only accurately shoot .22 pellets with large diameter heads.

Brad, thanks for the info, that confirms what I have read in some past comments. I will probably go with the .177 if I get the HW95 so that I can use CPHP, some here have said that they shoot very good on the .177. I want a rifle that I can shoot 1000 pellets a month without breaking the bank, Crosman Hollowpoints @ $5.99 (500) would be great.

Agreed! And that lowly pellet is exactly what my HW95 .177 loves-- CPHP 7.9. OTOH, it shoots nearly everything I've bought (not the Beeman 7.2 HPs) with marvelous results (dime to pencil eraser accuracy, from a rest at 13 yards). The CPHPs are just a ragged hole! (It's so fun to be able to say that, now that I've done it--gotta provide some pics though....) So, my HW95 shoots RWS, H&N, JSB, AA, H&N Excites, Gamo Tomahawk 7.9, Crosman 7.4 and 7.9 just superbly, in all shapes (except pointed, blaaaaah!!!!).

Archie, I love it when someone has exactly the information I'm looking for. I have RWS 34P in both .177 & .22, they also shoot CPHP perfectly. This is a big factor on what I will buy in the future. So thanks for that great information.

I'll put my $$$$ on the HW95/R9 but I'll take SIG ASP 20 over any Chinese made gun, Hatsan or Gamo.

My money is always on HW!!!! but I will agree on the bore DIA, they do run a tic big, mine shoot the H&N FTT 5.53mm, and the 3 .22cal HW rifles I have a 95,35 and 50, all shoot this pellet with 1 hole accuracy@23yds, but I have been trying other pellets and have discovered they also like the RWS Super H Points, the 16gn AA Fields, my 95 will shoot the Webley POWA PELL's same as the Crosman Pointed Hunting pellets with the same accuracy! I'm sure theirs other pellets that will shoot from these rifles, just haven't looked for them! another option would be a Diana 460mag, if you don't like the big power? detuned a little they make good shooters an also like the Crosman pellets

I've been watching about that Sig since it came out, I don't shoot break barrels as a rule and if I decided to buy another one I'd probably opt for the Sig. My Nitro Venom just don't cut it, it really turned me off on my first and last break barrel.

Wayne, All of the reviews and blogs on the SIG have called it the best and most advanced break barrel on the market today. Not a lot of actual owner reviews yet, that's what we are all looking and waiting for.

I've got both SigSauer ASP20 and an HW95, both in .22.

The HW95 is lighter weight, lighter cocking, and a slightly better trigger.

The ASP20 is heavier, generates more power.

They are both about the same noise level.

Personally I like shooting the Sig a tiny bit more. I like the stock better. I also like the matte finish of the sig more than the shiny HW95 bluing, but that is only in relation to woods use.

I had to put a Vortek SHO pg2 kit in the HW95 before I was happy with it. I have had to do absolutely nothing to the sig other than lighten the trigger a bit.

Lastly, they are both fairly pellet picky. HW95 likes H&N FTT 5.55 and the sig only really like JSB.

Yes, the lead is really tight, I can't even get my FTT's in 5.53 head - the skirt is too wide - ti fit without getting as sore finger pretty quickly. The JSB drop in just snug enough without forceful effort, and shoot great, so I haven't really explored a lot more options.

On a good day, I can get cloverleaf ragged hole groups with both guns.

I mainly like the Sig stock for the grippy parts, which are a really nicely done, while my HW95 is the plain uncheckered stock. I had an R9 before with the checkering, and it was a little nicer than the HW95 stock I got.

When its August and humid here, the grippy bits come in really handy!

I have noticed that all the pellets fit snug, something that really got my attention. Both the CPHP and CP Dome are included in this. The rifle is on the heavy side but it fits and does not seem heavy at all while shooting as it has balance. All the 12 pellets find the mark. Has the keystone lockup which makes it solid like an under-lever. I don't struggle with the cocking force. Sig did their thinking, it is a nice rifle......

Interesting that the HW98 and ASP20 are about the same price....Can you seat the pellets in your asp .22 with your thumb, or is a pellet seater advised? I'm patiently waiting for the synthetic .22, but being in my late 60s maybe I'd better rethink this whole thing.

Bill, I just went out and shot the Sig at 20 yards. (95° Out), and made note of fit of 10 different pellets. The CP dome went most of the way with the thumb but needed the tool to be complete. The CPHP was able to set with the thumb. Both landed within a .75 bull at that distance. Of the 10 only 3 needed the tool. All the rest were snug enough to require setting with a thumb push. Oh, and all 10 within that .75.... I have not picked the Sig favorite as yet.....
