New Benjamin Trail np ; How to break in the barrel

I just received a Benjamin Trail Nitro Piston and am very happy with it. I'v only shot about 120 times, but the more I shoot it the better groups I'm getting.I think the secret of why it's so accurate is because I broke the barrel in just like me and my Grandpa do when we get a new rifle.This is how we do it. Step 1, is thoroughly clean the barrel (I use Bore Butter, it's for muzzle loaders but it works good for air rifles). Step, 2 I shoot a ten shot string of pellets cleaning the barrel between every shot. Step, 3 after shooting ten shots and cleaning the barrel between every shot; you clean the barrel again and then shoot five pellets in a row and then clean the barrel one more time. after using whatever solvent you use apply Windex to the barrel, this ensures that you get all of the factory oils out of the barrel and makes the barrel very shiny and extremely clean. The reason I break the barrel in like this is that most of the time factory barrels come out of the building with small burrs and shavings of steel in the lands and grooves of the rifling. the continuous shooting and cleaning takes the burrs and shavings out of the barrel.This makes the gun shoot more consistent. I'm now going to do this to every air rifle I get and maybe this post can help one of ya'll out there.

Same here, happy first shots.
But only at about 300 shots later, and after that first happy day , no more power left... pellets got almost in a pack of A4 paper or 'bounced' off it a bit flattened.
Yours is still ok? Did you do the cmsoil drop every few hundred shots?  How many shots on the gun did you do, you guess?

X2??, also don't think I would use windex(water base) in my bore, seems it could allow some rust to form, Goo-gone has been working well for me and I think I'll stick with it. I just "cleaned" my .25 barrel for the XL. The first patch with the cleaner came out just slightly gray. The next patch was barely off white and the third was as clean as it went in! This after 1,400+ rounds through her. JMHO

PS- I don't "oil"every few hundred shots, matter of fact, unless I'm tuning, I don't oil at all!

There is no scientific proof that cleaning/shooting/cleaning/shooting breaks in a barrel.... just shoot and clean it when your done.

Before you were born we just, believe it or not... took our guns outside and shot them and once we were done went home can cleaned it..  It didn't matter what kind of gun it was.

and bb guns and pellet guns.. never got cleaned.

I killed many many birds in my childhood and never cleaned squat.

Of coarse we had to walk up hill in the snow both ways to/from school.

You say 2 opposite things: clean every time after use, and : never clean.
I got my benjamin np, cleaned it before shooting, to pevent dieseling for once.
After 150 shots, the bore/barrel was so dirty, this was the effect on felt 'pellets' :

I'm not convinced of this dieseling if it exists.

It's a pellet gun wtih no source of heat let alone enough to ignite any oil in the barrel and action. If that's what people are equating this too.

Do barrles get dirty, yes... is it something anyone worried about 30 years ago... nope. Will I clean my barrel in the future... possibly but not every time I shoot it.

That is what i have read to.
BUT, also this:
In the true diesel engine, only air is initially introduced into the combustion chamber. The air is then compressed with a compression ratio typically between 15:1 and 22:1 resulting in 40-bar (4.0 MPa; 580 psi) pressure compared to 8 to 14 bars (0.80 to 1.4 MPa) (about 200 psi) in the petrol engine. This high compression heats the air to 550 °C (1,022 °F) (source: Wikipedia)
Conclusion, an air rifle air-ram or spring should be able to 'make' 40+ bar and i guess they can, easily.

I clean the barrel of every new gun gun before I shoot it. Butches Bore shine followed by JB bore Paste.

Thats y you keep the oil out of a hp gun.get some oil in there or the pump and see what happens.not good.We have seen explosions here from oil in hp pumps and guns.I wouldnt want to have it happen to me personally.Springer do get hot enough to cause the smoke out of the barrel and can make a lighter pellet break the sound barrier but its not good for the gun or piston and seal.If cleaned out well you may not see it but almost all guns will at one time or another diesel.
