I attended a staff affliction meeting today. There was some good news.  After nearly nineteen years of service to the Florida Park Service I finally received my 15 year service pin.

That’s about the same schedule here where I work.

While mowing the front yard, I also mulched a bunch of leaves.  I mowed/mulched the back yard yesterday.

Finishing up the last of the hole patching on the shed roof. I have the paint to mix up and spray to finish it completely. If it continues to dry out I will be able to finish the floor. Spent the rest of the day prepping the raised garden bed for the next round of veggies to be planted. I had to add more soil to it which I have plenty of compost made up to replenish it. Spend the evening cutting and polishing some stones.

My mother drove to my place for a visit so we sat out in the sun then a scat ton of birds covering two acres started toward us so to prevent getting pooped on I grabbed the 12ga and let her rip. 4 birds in 1 shot fell dead and the rest flew away. The dead were tossed in the woods. No poop on us. Not today satan!

LOL I went slow as not to cause anyone motion sickness, also timed out to be as fast as we drag hay wagon loads of passengers through there at.

Better than a guy did in my trails hauling a trailer of family through fast with no hay on the trailer for them to sit on coming up to a culvert bump in the creek with my trail camera taking video of it. One dude saw the bump coming and the wince on his face was epic! They all screamed over the loud hit from the bump too.

I had a 40 year old wooden stool at my gun bench.   It was getting wobbly to the point that it was scary for me to sit on.   I'm an large old guy and hitting the floor from a collapsing stool would be bad news.  My wife spotted the horrible condition and immediately dragged it off to the dump staging area.   I did have an extra, very nice, heavy-duty, old industrial quality work stool at my cellar workbench.  It's heavy and dirty but I cleaned it up and dragged it up two flights of stairs.  That'll be the first part of my workout today.

Now I gotta get back to cleaning up that gun bench.   I need more space because I just got in the second load of items to cleanup, fix, photograph and hopefully sell some of them off   Just helping out a family friend whose father (also a family friend) passed away.

I spent most of the day de-webbing several park buildings.  This involves using various brushes, brooms, and scrapers to remove spider webs, spiders, spider egg cases, paper wasp’s nests, and mud-dauber wasp nests from the eaves of the buildings.   No other ranger here can be convinced to perform this duty.  If I stand there and drive them like rented mules I can get some of the younger guys to do it. It it is easier (Literally!) to do it myself.  What a bunch of entitled whiners these guys are!

I declared myself done about 1430 but I made a couple of the new guys sweat cleaning up a bunch of dead dogwood trees I cut down and bucked up.  We will burn the wood at tomorrow’s retirement party for my friend Jackie.

Why do old guys end up doing the tough jobs?  I'm glad I'm retired.   There were a lot of times I wanted to scream at and insult the masculinity of young guys but it was easier and faster to do the tough job myself.  I would never have let an old man outdo me at anything when I was the young kid on the job.  I'd have died coughing blood first.

There isn't anything more aggravating than a young person playing with a cell phone and talking down on somebody doing their job. I had one complain it made him look bad, Oh I came at him and basically told him "the only one making you look bad is yourself". That ruined his day. There is no respect in this day and age for sure. My favorite come back at times was " I have PMS and bulldozer, any questions".

I cleaned off spiderwebs that were 10-22 feet off the ground around our Church Sanctuary walls and ceiling. Up and down and moving a ladder a lot! I also repaired an Exit Light that hangs 10' up at the entry hall and cleaned to chandeliers. Then I trimmed two trees. I am tired now, I worked 9-4 without taking a break.

 Funny thing is I just got a call asking for a phone number I didn't have, I went over to The Church Sanctuary to get the phone number that I knew one of the ladies cleaning the building had. Then I got roped into 9:00 AM-4:00 PM ladder work.

It's hard for me to get a good ear pic on myself. The branch dug a pretty deep hole and tore the skin back. It took about 3 hours to get it fixed up. They just cleaned and bonded it. Here is a better/another angle pic of the surface of the damage.

Update, it has healed nicely leaving a little scar, but not too bad.

Fingers work better when they ain't leaking and when all the bony bits stay put.


Sonja and I spent 2 days prepping and painting walls (mostly her) and assembling cabinets (mostly me) in the quonset.  Ikea dropped the ball on hardware and cabinet faces, but I made things work.  I have some old templates for drill holes etc. that saved the bacon.  We're looking at less than a month before we can get an occupancy permit.

The HVAC guy doing th mini-splits jack-knifed trying to pull up the slick-as-snot "yard" of red-clay mud.  He managed a world-class save by not taking out the transformed and H-frame with the power.  No charging the system thanks to the rain, so he'll be working on it today and tomorrow.

There's a couple small leaks to contend with (I'm point my fingers directly at my in-laws as they chose a different anchoring system) but it is nothing some Galvalume won't fix.
