Stock Tape On Balistic Card !

Just had some ballistic cards made up.

Will tape it to my stock so I have all the info i need while hunting at a glance.

If you don't have a lot of ranges needed, you can get those self sticky round labels,
cut to fit inside the rear eye scope covers.
Write the info on the sticky, and place inside the flip up scope covers,
when you open the scope cover to shoot, there is the info needed etc.

All my hunting scopes are set up this way....

I like putting my dope cards in a football play wristband...  weather resistant and you can swap them out for your different rifles, or pellets...

I also firmly believe in attaching a dope card or tape where it can quickly be referanced on the rifle.  And at times I used the scope cover but usually on the left side of the scope or rifle where it's quickly seen as the rifle is shouldered. Note I'm talking about hunting as if I'm at the range I'm usually using an app on my phone anyway

The main thing I've learned is to reduce the needed info to quickly absorbed basics.  For me that ment only having six probable ranges listed.  And all I put down is the range and the hold under or over because FPE just is not needed hunting.  I've seen people with huge cards taped to their buttstocks but they never use 90% of that.

Since I zero all my air rifles at 85 yards I have a 20, 35, 50, 65,  85 and 100 yards.  With the 20 through 65 being the most probable ranges anyway.

There is one more line below that and that is windage drift.  Since the average wind is 8 MPH I list the correction for each of my ranges under the holdover. ( Mildot scope example here, @ 900 FPS and a BC of .12 so it's a slug, not a pellet 😁)

And I list it like this on a piece of tape because it is actually quicker to judge the distance then glance at the tape and the longer range is towards the front of the airgun, the close range is towards the back of the gun/ tape. Once you get used to it it is very intuitive and quick.

For those using inches the holdover would be this
-3.21 / 0 / 2.51 / 3.09 / 2.61 / 1.09

Note that a non-traditional 85 yard zero keeps the 50 yard the highest part of the trajectory at +3" and the 100 yard drop at -3", another way to do a quick mind trick to keep trajectory easy(er) for hunting with high arch, mortar trajectory air rifles. Since the lethal zone of many larger game animals is 3" or larger you increase your chances if you forget in the excitement (haha) and aim at the center of their zone with no compensation, you still hit in it vs a 100 yard (very high at mid-range) or 50 yard zero (big drop to compensate for at longer ranges). Calculate it and you will see.

WOW, you guys have some great ideas. Most of the time 6 different yardages are all I need ... a 15, 25, 35, 45, 50, 60. for the vast amount of my shooting .. Most of my hunting guns are set at a 40 yard zero ( most of my hunting guns have a muzzle energy of 18-22+ish fpe and at least 12 fpe at my longest range of 60 yards) unless they are my Condors, Careers or my Hatsan AT44s - Long .. those are sighted in at 50 yards and a long range mark of 75 yards, these guns are heavy hitters..

I apologize if this is thread-hacking, but it's kinda relevant...  How do y'all decide what range to sight your guns in at?  Is it arbitrary, based on a ballistic program, or a semi-arbitrary range based on caliber and FPE?

I use a ballistic program to find optimum zero, Chair Gun or the like.   And then verify the calculations with target shooting checks.  Pretty amazing how well the ballistic programs model reality.  Judging the range and wind quickly when hunting is the real trick.

My sight in range is determined by velocity and the trajectory apex to my zero. Most of my airguns in the 700 to 800 ish fps range are sighted in between 35-40 yards.

My Hatsan AT4410 QE, Careers, Sumatra and my Condors (all 22-257 cal) have 40 to 150+fpe and are sighted in anywhere between 50 and 60 yards as they all are for larger game at longer ranges. All these guns are shooting in the high 885-950+ range with heavy pellets.

My Benjamin Bulldog is sighted in at 60 as this gun is a 60 ish yard pig gun. Last checked it gives me about 198fpe for 4 shots at~845fps with 125gr softpistol bullets. ... if I need more shots  than that, I should put the guns away.
