Finally joined the club, should have bought one years ago. Sweet little gun, great value.

First thing I did was put a drop of Mac1’s secret sauce oil on the piston, then I realized the manual recommends silicone lube so I wiped it off.  Not used to that for pumpers, will have to pick some up. Running strong though.

Build quality seems robust, even the polymer. I wish it had traditional iron sights over the questionable fiber optics though. I wonder how it will hold up long term?

The P17s are excellent and and a BARGAIN at $33 from Walmart.
My 2 are about 5 or 6 years old and still going strong.
I also wish they had traditional sights instead of the fiber optic sights.
The P17 is a target pistol and the fiber optics are not the best for target shooting.
I would buy another one if I could get one with traditional sights.
They do not need to be metal and the adjustment can be the same just NOT have the fiber optics.

You need progressive overload if you want development, that would mean making the chamber increasing smaller

And I guess you don’t store it with a pump of air? I wonder what kind of seals it has on the valve & piston, might try to look up a diagram or tear down video...

I have removed the fiber optic inserts, and used the “liquid steel” putty to fill in the holes and then file the front sight square after it hardens, and then touched the spots with paint. 

No more fiber optics.

Breech -008, Valve -006 and -008, Piston 25x20x2.5mm (-116/-117 can fit but slightly small/large IMO).

Mine will not pump with the  #116. The #117 works for me.

500+ round update-

Still works, but I can hear some air leaking when I pump it. I was hoping the piston seal was the culprit, bought some 116 orings but I didn’t see any damage when I pulled it out. It must be something sealing in the valve I guess. If I close the pump quick it still holds air without leaking but shoots maybe 20% under power. If I close it slow it’ll leak through the whole motion and not build any pressure.

Guess Ill have to do a full takedown some day to check the other seals.

Seems like the new problem with the P17 is the small valve o-ring.  Mine let go within the first hundred pellets, and this issue is popping up a lot on the net.  Put in 90A polyurethane size -006 and it should last for the life of the gun.  I have at least 3000 pellets on mine.

By the way, I know I said -008 for the breech o-ring before, and it works fine, but now I think -009 is better.  I'm getting slightly lower E.S. and slightly higher average velo with the -009.

It looks like you've had it less than a month, I'd just return it and get a new one if I were you. If you bought it at Walmart I think you have 90 days to return.

Not sure about Walmart... I've returned a few airguns. I do know that some vendors require that you contact manufacturers for issues. I bought virtually all my P-17s from Big Supply Shop. They require you return to manufacturer. I have yet to have the need to.

About 1 year ago I returned a pellet gun to Walmart.
You can call the Walmart manager and ask them.
About 1 month ago I returned a BB gun to Cabelas.

If you can't return it, I recommend a set of poly 90A "forever" o-rings.

I checked their policy online and while they don't do returns on firearms it doesn't mention airguns. It appears to be up to the store manager, worth it to at least call and ask like Earl said.

I took it apart again today and was able to remove the trigger group and everything else. There was just a small tear on the 006 o-ring on top of the spring plunger. The bolt o-ring from a 1322 fit so I was able to swap one from a spare. It was a bit fiddly trying to reassemble all the parts, it would be nice if we could order spare parts from Beeman- I might contact them. But if I have to take it apart again I’m sure it will be easier.

But it’s working good again firing 7.9 gr CPHPs at 400 FPS. Just a really neat pellet pistol.

Pretty sure parts and shipping would cost nearly the $32 that the pistol sells for at Walmart....

Oh well, mine gave up tonight. It lasted a few months though and I put a LOT of pellets through it. Helped keep my arms and hands in shape
