So it looks like they are saying the valve seat got damaged by users in the dis-assembly/assembly process, and that is what is causing the leaking.   While Stephan's seat looked like it had some small dings on it, not sure how that caused the damage to the valve face from the poppet metal hitting it.  Maybe the damage caused the poppet sealing material to erode to the point of metal poppet contact???  That would just lead me back to the material being too soft.  JMO.

you mean the hole in the regulator that vents to atmosphere? that hole is in between the receiver and the regulator block? there is a way to stop that if you havent already sent it back

no, he means the center hole in the brass reg adjuster. I tried fixing it for him but the plastic seat had a defect and I couldn't get it to seal so since it was new he sent it back. I had a separate post on it.

I wonder if the poppet valve in the Liberty is the same as in the freedom? I have the Aspen version of the freedom and kind of concerned.

Hey Guys.

Got mine about a month ago also around 1500 pellets through it. jut started noticing its dropping about 1000 psi overnight.

I have pretty much all of the equipment one would need to fix this. I have 3d printers, a metal lathe, 80w Laser cutter etc.

So to be clear before opening mine up to see what I have to do to fix it. Where is the part that starts to leak I cant tell from the post but it seems its either on the fill valve side or the airflow into the regulator.

Are there any other seals that may be damaged taking it apart when all the air is out.

if someone is making a poppet. they really need to tear it apart. besides its so easy. degas, undo the barrel and unscrew the regulator and its right there. the only thing hard about this rifle is the valve. getting to the valve meant everything needs to come apart, almost.

stem od: 3mm or .116
stem length: 1.7695
poppet od: .353
poppet spring seat: .2785
poppet shell length: .298

the shell lengh can be shortened for less preload on the valve spring.

 Not sure if this has been posted yet as I'm still reading but this looks like a good candidate for a replacement stem. 2900A256   from McMaster Carr

OK guys, I did the balloon test on the end of the rifle and my poppet is leaking. How do you get the valve out? I've got the poppet out and the set screw that holds the valve in I think but it will not come out.

Take the hammer and trigger assembly off. With the set screw on the bottom off, tap the back of the valve with a wooden dowel. Tap tap tap but don't smack it.

I went ahead and eliminate the problem all together by having 2mm stem and counter sunk valve face and new poppet.

Wow! That looks great! I bet you will get more power or efficiency with that tapper funnel opening. The air will rush passed the poppet more easily, i would think. Nice design.

Nice work.  Good pictures for showing this design for other valves too.  I was wondering about this design for a valve I was trying to make.  Won't this take a little hammer force to get it open?

This valve is pushing a 15.5 grain slugs at 980fps in 177 at factory reg setting for 15-20 shots. I have not tried or test on .22. but the plenum volume is the limiting factor for higher fpe. Made for Cosmic and tuned for max power.

Yeah the poppet is smaller so it's easier to open and I gained some fps going this route.

OK I see, you made a new valve. How much would you want for one? I have both the freedom and the liberty and I know they're both going to need one eventually.


Thanks Duy. I thought the stem was 3mm? OH to have a lathe!!! Use to have access to both a lathe and a mill when I was working but those days are gone.

Sorry I was playing with words. The discovery poppet may not work since the stem is big and short. The poppet can be turned down though
