Probably the only way to keep the length and reduce the weight would be to switch to plastic bullets.  If only there were a way to make hollow core bullets that had the right shape, and you could control the weight distribution.

If you make the exact same bullet out of Tin instead of Lead.... it will weigh 65% of the weight in lead (about 40 gr.).... Of course that means that the BC will also be only 65% of the lead version.... Pure tin is quite soft, about BHN 10-11.... so you should be able to swage it.... In theory it should need a faster twist rate.... but you may find you are OK with your 9" twist.... Obviously testing would be required to confirm that....

As Pellgunfun wrote, a little help with plastic spikes, when generally in similar caliber bullets with plastic spikes achieve better BC
than bullets of the same weight but without plastic spikes.  But this is a very difficult matter in the current conditions.

Absolutely correct.... Unfortunately, the same thing that creates that high BC, the Sectional Density, is high.... which makes it more difficult to get the kind of velocity you want for long range without long barrels and high pressures.... Just as the high SD bullet does not slow down as quickly after firing, the high SD makes it harder to accelerate.... In addition, as you found out, very fast twist rates are required to stabilize bullets which are long for their caliber.... and since twist rate is a function of caliber, the smaller the caliber, the faster the twist rate must be (in inches)…. As an additional annoyance, the "aerodynamic jump" (vertical deflection of the bullet in a crosswind) is worse with long bullets fired from fast twist barrels....

I haven't been here for a long time, so I'll add some new information:

We are still working on the first series of M24 rifles. We're a little late due to the flu epidemic in our team, but hopefully we'll catch up in December.

I also added a new section where I present our record in achieving the best consistency in the muzzle velocity of the air rifle in the world :

The new record is standard deviation of 25 consecutive shots of just 0.13 m / s. With an extreme spread of 0.43 m / s 
or in FPS units its :
 standard deviation 0,44 fps and  extreme spread 1,4 fps.

if you have someone with enough evidence to achieve a better consistency of 25 consecutive shots, I'd love to look at them.

Used our new M24 airgun (not the first camouflage prototype as in the previous record ), altaros external regulator and our made bullets 31 grain.



I also have good news about those interested in our bullets, as we have finally received a concession for the production of ammunition and now we are sending the samples to the national testing office for granting a sale permit.

Europe, including the Czech Republic, was totally over-bureaucratized  and getting all permits it took us about 4 months and cost several thousand dollars.

This is completely different than when someone in the US buys equipment and the next day can legally sell bullets on ebay.

I put this information here especially to understand that to deliver the product on the market it's not just about making it, so it takes longer than you would like.

There was not much time at the moment, but as I will have more time and more suitable conditions, so I would like to make videos with a +1000 yards shoting.

We used the Christmas holiday in Altaros company to set new World Record in the longest Airgun hit.
The current record is 1400 yards, 1280 meters and was hit a chain wall target of size 22x18"



This is probably the first time in modern history that this record was reached directly by company that is manufacturer of airgun and bullets at the same time.

Didn't take too many shots to be on target unlike the other "world record" shooter, who shot dozens after dozens and got lucky once.

The World record video was made after the first hit, when I found out I didn't have the Nikkon P 1000 zoom recording turned on.

As you can see, the total number of shots was only by one shot higher than the cut version of video. With luck, I'd hit the target with a second shot. For hit was missing only a few inches.

I would like to appeal to other shooters who will try to do something similar to post these uncut shots video.
  As MJP writes, the difference is to hit a target after firing a large number of shots and rely more or less on random hits and then cut the video with just a few nice shots that hit next to the target, but to cut off the other bad ones compared to this video where all the shots are visible !

You should be very proud of your accomplishment.  Took me a very long time to get comfortable shooting at those ranges, and I was shooting powder burners.  lol.

Those bullets look really sweet!!!  Beautiful design, but at 61grs my gun would probably spit them out at around 250 feet per second or less.  That would never work. 

Great shooting, and I really like your shooting room.  Seems nice and cozy to shoot from on a cold day.

61 grain bullet are a specific project. They are not applicable to the standard Altaros M24.  The problem is not in  muzzle speed, but in a barrel twist. Standard airgun barrel, which will have in standard M24 this is not able to stabilize. It is suitable for pellets and for example our 31grain bullets.
Shooting room it's better that sit outside in the rain, but now in winter it's almost as cold as outside. The reason is that it is necessary, otherwise you wouldn't see anything other than mirrage at the window interface at 120x zoom camera.
I wish it was spring or summer, I hate winter
