Logging In
« on: January 08, 2019, 12:56:48 AM »
In the midst of changing computers I noted a change in GTA.  My old computer used to "know" me when I opened GTA.  There was no request for username or password, it would just log me in.  Once logged in it would put me on the new posts page.  Now I end up on my inbox page.  Strangely, that's exactly what my old computer is doing now.  Is this something I've inadvertently done or has a change been made to the GTA program?  I looked in my profile and haven't found a way to change those things yet.  Any help is appreciated.  Confusion reigns supreme!!

Strange...no profile settings that I know of. Try clearing your internet cache. Then just type in https://gatewaytoairguns.org and that should take you to the home page. Click on Show unread since last visit. See if that works.

All is good - almost.  As Dave suggested I cleared all cookies and cache.  GTA no longer starts in my messages but on the normal (to me) home page.  It still doesn't "know" me like it used to - I have to enter a user name - but it's improved and partially back to where I think it belongs.  This is using Firefox.  Thanks, Dave.
I REALLY dislike changing computers.  No, I don't do Windows 10.  I'll stick with Windows 7 or Linux.

Tom, you probably already know but, when you log in make certain to check the Stay Logged In Forever option. I access GTA from 3 different computers throughout the day and am permanently logged in on all.

What your talking about only happens to me when I clean my cookies out.  You can keep the GTA cookie from being cleaned out by exempting  it from the cleanout list. Maybe your cookies are being cleaned out every time you shut down your computer....

This whole adventure has been perplexing.  Dave, I do normally have "stay logged in forever" checked but normally log out when I leave the site - though not always.  I thought I had my  browser set to clear cookies on exit.  I'll have to play a bit.  I've mostly got the "new" laptop on line and the older one usually works, though not reliably which is the reason for the "new" one.  Thanks for the suggestions.  Airguns aren't the only toys I play with.
