Daisy over Crosman
« on: December 27, 2018, 12:13:00 AM »
So, Iíve had a 2200, and a 760 on the Crosman side.

A 880, 856, and 850 on the Daisy side.

Iíve taken apart the Daisy guns and put back together, but the Crosman clamshell designs thoroughly kick my tail!

Anybody have similar experience?

If I get another cheap pumper, it would be the 901 over the 2100 for this exact reason.

Am I missing something?

Sam, how do you like your 850? I've seen a few of them come up at auction and they seem to sell well.

Sam, what part of the clamshell is causing you consternation?

The 760 is a really easy to tinker with- having a total of like 3 metal parts (okay there's more than that).  I've not messed with a 2100 much,  not doing more than just a simple crown job on my neighbor's.

Mine came with a filthy barrel. Havenít shot it yet.

Itís basically a 953 with a B.B. reservoir and really cheap stock.

I like the concept, weíll see how it shoots.

I'm used to crosmans inside, the 2100 sure is complicated inside.

If you call your shots some days you kill it and some days you choke, some days you blast off and some days you just smoke.

My crosman 760 was difficult because the tube has 2 holes at the very back. They use these to hold it in the stock AND they use it to hold the hammer spring.
It just doesn't seem to work.
I did a really bad job of trying to fix that.

The 766, 2280, 2X00 types are always difficult because you need to line up the safety, without things popping out. The 66 and 760 can be easier if you get that barrel under control and everything perfectly lined up. Good luck with a stronger hammer spring though. You are playing a game of "Perfection" then.

Oh yea, I do like the older metal Daisys but those are hard to come by.

The 8xx daisy's are very simple to work on. Nothing goes SPROING and you don't need three hands to get them back together. That said, most golden age Crosmans are pretty easy to work on as well.
