HW30 Rekord trigger and safeties
« on: December 04, 2018, 11:22:57 PM »
So I've added a Beeman branded HW30 to my arsenal. It says Beeman on the receiver and HW30 on the breech block. It has the rocker style safety (see pic) and now sports the Perfekt trigger.

Two questions:

Can I install a Rekord trigger with this style of safety? I thought I read somewhere that there are two styles of Rekord; one for rifles with, one for rifles without safeties.

Isn't this rocker style of safety supposed to auto-return to safe mode after cocking? Mine does not.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hi, Dennis. Sorry I can't answer your trigger question, but I'd love to see more pics of that gun.

Thanks anyway Dan. I'll post up some more pics tomorrow.

It's nothing special really, just your ordinary HW30, but it's in near mint condition and I got it for $82, so that makes it special to me  :D.

Serial number dates it to 2002. It has the fixed post front globe sight up front, so I've ordered a Weihrauch globe w/ inserts and a William's FP-AG peep to make it more like my 30S-X.

Would really like to add that Rekord to it.

Hello Dennis,
A Rekord trigger will fit but your safety will no longer work.
If it has a front sight that mounts like your 30s-x with a dovetail cut into the barrel, a Weihrauch globe will not fit. If it has two lengthwise grooves on the barrel the globe will fit.

Understand Jeff. I know the difference. This one has the longitudinal grooves, not the lateral dovetail, and I did measure them. I also test fitted the globe from my 2016 HW30S.

Thanks though, for looking out for me.  ;)

Thanks also for the info on the safety. I don't care if it works. I was more concerned about the Rekord trigger working on it. The HW30S-X has no safety at all.

Here for your viewing pleasure (and as requested by Dan) are some more pics of this Beeman HW30. It is all HW30 from the breech forward, and Beeman on the receiver end, including that odd safety that is not auto-functioning at this time. I am also informed that the trigger really has nothing to do with the safety (except on later models it has a hole drilled for the lateral safety).

As I stated earlier, this gun is in near mint condition. The only flaws are two tiny nicks in the stock.

I also wish herein to thank MDriskill for his timeless research and information on sorting out all the peculiarities of my HW collection. Thanks again Mike!

That's a great deal for $82. I'll bet it's impressively accurate regardless of the trigger. What's the trigger like? Is it two stage?  Heavy? Creepy?

I haven't had a chance to test it out other than take a few pot shots out in the yard. The trigger is single stage, no adjustment and no where near what I expected, especially from a Weihrauch, meaning it's not that great. Steady stiff pull with no predictable release point. Could be I just haven't shot it enough to get a feel for it. I'm going to "borrow" the Rekord trigger from my 2016 30S and see how it works out before I drop $100 on a new one.

The mainspring could probably use a lube as well as it is quite harsh compared to my other two HW30's. Then again, being as new as it appears on the surface, I'm sure it needs a good breaking in as well.

The more I look at this thing the more I appreciate what a deal I got on it. The breech block and seal show NO sign of wear, and the pivot is very stiff. It's like it just came out of the box.  :D

The new front globe and Williams peep should be here tomorrow. Wish it weren't so cold out. I'd really like to get this thing in order.

Thanks for the kind words!

Y’know back in the old days, the only way to check out an airgun you weren’t familiar with was to buy it. I love the interwebs where I can learn for free from other guys’ toys, LOL!

And on this particular little rifle, I have learned that one problem with being a “collector” is that, well...all my stuff is OLD!   ;)  I am frequently quite ignorant of the details of newer guns. I’d never seen one of these Perfekt-trigger safeties though apparently they’ve been around for at least 16 years...

The Perfekt should still be a 2-stage trigger, though it is not as slick and adjustable as the Rekord. You might start by dropping the action out of the stock and just checking her out. A problem I often find with HW’s is that the gun has been stood on its butt for years, and the thick brown factory grease has drifted back and gummed up the trigger, so just cleaning it up may help a lot.

Wood, steel, and leather...all you need for a proper airgun!

Mike, you are correct. The Perfekt trigger does have a two stage "feel" in that it pulls heavy but consistently up to a point, and then a bit harder until the release point. There is no adjustment screw present on mine, unless it's accessible with the stock removed (as you mentioned, and which I haven't checked for yet).

You could also be correct about the lube goo drifting back. I have so much going on right now, I have little time to dig deeper into it. That being said however, I did receive the Williams peep and HW front globe. The globe is nice. It's slightly larger in diameter and fills the peep view almost perfectly with just a slight halo visible. The peep is a huge disappointment though, and it's my fault. I thought I was ordering the Williams FP-AG (which are impossible to find these days) and what I ordered was a 5D-AG model. Compared to almost any other sight that I have, it's a joke. The windage is not a screw-driven adjustment, but rather a slider held in place by two set screws. They provided a gauge on the top bar, but no notch or line on the slider to reference to the gauge. Loosen those two set screws and let it slip, and you have no way to know how much it moved unless you just use the edges of the diopter as the reference point(s). You can see how far left I had to adjust it as the dovetail clamp below is made for a range from 3/8 to Weaver/Picatinny width. Elevation is also non-screw driven, just a slider again, but at least it has a stop screw as some sort of reference point. The sight picture is good however in this combination with the new front globe.

Next - Get it sighted in, which could take a long time unless I find an FP-AG somewhere.
