BUYER BEWARE - Hatsan Refurbs
« on: November 07, 2018, 08:09:10 PM »
I wanted to post this so other members know what to expect if they are thinking of purchasing a refurbished product from HatsanUSA.  They do NOT refund your money for refurbished products.  This is not readily apparent and is buried in their webpage.  I found it, but it took some searching (and a link HatsanUSA provided in a response to a BBB complaint against them).

When you read about their refurbished products on their webpage, you get a nice write-up about what all they do to refurbish an air rifle, but nothing about their policies if you purchase one and it's defective.  I learned the hard way by buying one that was defective.  It's been replaced once and the replacement also failed.  So, 2 down and now I wait to hear back from HatsanUSA once again.

Your results may vary, but I ended up with 2 defective air rifles in a row, and no telling what I'll get this time.  Unfortunately, the 90 warranty on the refurbished products is fast approaching, and if #3 fails, I'm not sure what, if anything they will do for me that won't require an out of pocket expense.

So, please consider this and choose wisely if you plan on purchasing a refurbished air rifle direct from HatsanUSA.

To become a REFURB it must be a RETURN .... so there alone should be a pretty good indicator something is likely fubar ?
While we read about happy refurb customers and the quite likely many of those returned rifles were "I just don't like it " and reselling as used / refurb.
But if the gun HAD issues & really was screwed up, ability to cheaply get it shooting for resell is done CHEAPLY !! ... so don't think what your buying as refurb is an actual REBUILD, cause it's not !

There is the problem

Reconditioned means what they are claiming as refurbished.

Refurbished used to mean put back through the manufacturing or qualification process to make it like new once again.

Reconditioned meant to fix, patch or band aid if you will to make it a sale-able product but not a like new product.

From their website:

What is a Refurbished Hatsan Airgun?
Refurbished Hatsan Airguns are carefully evaluated to ensure they meet the same high performance standards as our new products, but at a better value to you.

Refurbished airguns may have minor cosmetic blemishes (scratches, dings, chips, etc...), however, they will not have any large gouges, cuts, modifications, or any form of structural damage.

What we check before boxing the gun:

Safe and proper function of the gun and components
Velocity and accuracy standards are met and recorded
All necessary accessories are included

Well, there you have it, no where does it say they actually fix anything...

It's already been very well documented on the Forum that buying any refurb rifle (and brand new ones for that matter) from Hatsan is a 50/50 shot whether you'll get a good one or a bad one and you take your chances doing it. Read through enough pages in the Turkish Gate or the PCP/Darkside Gate and you'll find them so information on the subject is definitely not lacking. We are definitely not a quiet group when it comes to airgun issues and what to potentially watch out for.
Thanks for digging deeper and finding the info you did though. I'm sure it will help future members considering purchase of one.

I've never owned a Hatsan but the Flash is tempting at times, it looks like it might be a nice gun from what others are saying, maybe when HatsanUSA shows some refurb flash's I might pic one up ???

Wayne, just know going in that whatever you purchase direct from Hatsan will be yours for good, especially if it's a refurb!  It's a &^^& shoot, but there are many folks who have gotten great rifles from the Hatsan refurb store.  I just wasn't that lucky, but then again, after being inside the BullBoss, it's a pretty complicated setup with many moving parts that can go haywire!  The Flash is a much more simplistic design, so there's probably a lot less that can go wrong.

I received notification yesterday that my BullBoss is on it's way back to me.  They rejected my request for a refund, as I expected they would.  My expectations are not that high.  I sent it back a second time because it failed for the same reason the 1st one did, the debounce part.  Because of the failure of the debounce part, the magazine advance was also damaged.  I verified the damage to both parts through visual inspection and documented it with pictures before I sent it back.  They claim the problem was due to the 2nd air tube I had purchased (also a refurb) and included when I returned it.  I'm not sure what an air tube has to do with the debounce part to the magazine advance, but they claim they repaired the air tube, have put 160 pellets through it and its working perfectly.  Oh, and the magazine would not advance with the air tube that came with the rifle either, so I'm not sure what was actually done or not done with this latest repair.  I guess I'll see when it arrives next week.

On a positive note, Hatsan did state that their repair also carry a 90 day warrantee from the date of repair, so I do have some more time to use and abuse it before it's all on me to repair if it does fail again.

I feel sorry for the poor sod who got my returned Model 95. It was a clunker when it WAS a new product.

Just to close the loop on this incident, since I have received the BullBoss back after the second trip to the Mother Ship, it has worked flawlessly. Now, to qualify that statement, as soon as I got it back I replaced the 2 piece denounce part with the 1 piece design they had previously sent me. When I got it back it still had the flawed 2 piece part installed. But, since swapping the 2 piece part for the 1 piece part, I have not had a single problem and itís settling in quite well. It is now shooting groups that rivel those I get from my Mrod!  So, it took a bit of persistence, but in the end it paid off and I have a reliable air gun.

I didn't buy a refurb, but I did purchase a new Flash Pup at a reduced price.  The gun is awesome.  Just saw AEAC's review on Youtube and it is awesome.  Without any tuning at all, his .25 is shooting almost MOA at 100 yards.  Not bad, eh?  He did shoot one sub MOA 50 yard group.  Trigger at sub 1 pound, magazine flaw is supposedly fixed AND a Turkish Walnut stock?  Are you kidding me???
