FWB 300 & 600 pellet choice for beyond 10 meters

I have done a fair mount of shooting over time with my FWB's.  The wadcutters punch clean round  holes at 10 yds.  And many of the match grades are exceptional.  But out to 50 yds, I have found JSB RS 7.3 is all I shoot.  I use to hang 3/8" washer on a string, and rock them until bored at 50 yds.  One small puff of wind, and the pellet is 4" off target.

Here is an example of a 30 yd 5 shot group,













I can reset this crow target at 30-50 yds also.

Jason I found a tin of AA Falcon 7.33 gr pellets, they shoot great one hole at 25 with no wind, thanks for the tip.

My 300s likes the air arms 8.4gr best, both 4.51 and 4.52 size

JSB 7.87 shoot best for me in all my 300's out to 25 yards. JSB 7.33 is my second choice.

I watched this exact thing last Saturday with the Lady Husker Rifle team vs. U of Kentucky. Stood right behind a young man representing the U of K  and witnessed him hit 20 10x IN A ROW. 10 meters, off hand. All of the shooters at the match Saturday can do that. Go to a match sometime, it'll humble you.

Mike I have some official ten meter rifle targets, little 4"x4"  targets with a tiny 10 dot in the center they scare me just looking at them. I've seen a few competitions not airguns and yes these guys and gals will humble you .

Regarding distances beyond 10m with the FWB 300. I took my FWB300 along when I went to the outdoor range - minimum  is 50yds.

As noted earlier, low velocity, light pellet, wadcutters, and wind are a bad combination.  I had all four to deal with yesterday so I did my scientist thing...

I reasoned that the light wind (less than 10mph swirling around the range) would be difficult to dope and didn't want to mess with flags and propellors like my bench-rest friends at the same range...  I held the aiming point dead center on a 1" orange dot.  The drop was about 16" from a zero of 50'.  I shot one group of 25 pellets reasoning that statistics would continue to work.  I'll publish the target along with a target shot with my 20 cal RWS 54 tomorrow in a new thread.   

The results summarized were: 

FWB300 a group measuring about 1.5" by 6" with 13 pellets in a single ragged hole about 1/2x1" and the other twelve spread around it.  I think the ragged hole would be the "wind-free" result and represent the abilities of the rifle/mount combination at 50yds.  The other 12 spread around and represent the effects of light wind on the pellet.  By the way, the scattered pellets weren't well centered as the wind was showing directionality.

RWS 54 in 20 caliber. Same story except only 20 shots as it started to rain and I ran for cover...  The group was more-or-less a circle around a central group of about 5 in the same hole of about 1/2" and a 2" diameter group about 4" low of the aiming point.  The others were scattered around the central group. 

I didn't get to try my .177 RWS 54 with the same test as THE SCOPE BROKE!!!!  My first confirmed victim of the famous RWS54 scope killing legend.  I suspected that the scope was damaged but yesterday confirmed it.  The view was fuzzy and I couldn't get the parallax corrected or the target sharp and clear with any adjustments.  The scope is a RWS branded 4-12 that came with the USED gun.  I don't know how much it had been shot.  The RWS Lockdown mount is being replaced with a Hector accurized ZR mount as soon as he gets it done. (Hector was off to the National Matches so didn't get to it.)  I have a replacement Hawke scope in hand so I'll get it running pretty quick.  I may tear the old scope apart to see if I can figure out what failed.  I think it is a loose lens as I had been able to clear it up earlier with a mild tap on the objective bell. More later on that!!!

At the 2018 Olympics, the American girl from WVU won the gold over former World Champions and defending Olympic Champion, both Chinese ladies, by 1/10 of a mm per shot.  That AMAZED me!

Interesting how this topic fits into my recent experience.
 I too wanted to "stretch the legs" on my 300S just for get's and shiggles. I had a small variety of good quality 177 pellets.
I have mounted a CP 4x32 scope. Shot it at 25 yards, off the rail mounted solid bipod.

 It's favorite pellet at 10M is the 8.2 Meisters, even over the more expensive R-10 8.2g
So I used that as my baseline in the center bull.... "Not Good".
 As you can see in the target below, they did not perform well at 25 yards. But still better than the R-10 (top left), both wadcutters.

 The JSB Diabolo 8.4 domed and then the 10.3 Exact Heavy's did considerably better.
But what really surprised me was the group from the JSB Match Diabolo Exact RS 7.33g.
 This is the only gun I have that prefers them...

I've tried a bunch of pellets at 25 yards and both of my 300's prefer JSB 7.33 and AA 7.87 grain pellets.

Five shots at 25 yards with factory peep sights, JSB 7.33's.

Yes wadcutters are only good for 10-15 meters.
