Casting set up

Here’s what I’ve got set up for casting , made from spare parts I had around from renovations and a tool box that I inherited from my Dad . I’m using a Lee 10lb bottom pour pot which I like very much other than the odd drip . The tool box is handy for keeping my lead , moulds ,handles and other misc. supplies . I use the hood range with both the light and fan , the fan is plumbed into a 10ft section of dryer vent which takes the fumes to an outlet I installed on the outside wall in my shop. Keeps the air free of fumes . Let’s see what you’s have come up with .

I prefer to swage for my slugs and have been doing so for 2 years now
for hand casting I use the old Lee 4-20 drip-somatic with a PID controller

Well I was very busily this morning and casted up some .223"
Huben slugs in 22 cal the slugs are 34 grain much testing is needed .

Would love to be able to Swage, but way out of my league cost wise for my use.  


Good looking Stuff Dale! Love the double machines!  Where did you come up with the word Casted? LOL  


I love those machines Dale!  And I could say I sweged a bunch of bullets.

Michael I remember looking at the Corbin stuff a long time ago and the price of their stuff is way out of my league.

I would love to be able to change weights and lengths . Too bad the Corbin press and dies are so pricey.

My setup is very basic... the small lee pot that my kids picked up for me as a gift. It does the job very well and does a good job of holding a temp once set... I am concentrating on the lighter end of things < 45g so do not need a large pot...I also like that it is easy to empty if I want to try a different alloy... If I start doing any of the larger rounds in say .45 220g then will get a larger pot...

 I have 2 thermometers that come very close to agreeing one is an actual lead thermometer... the other not quite sure what it is meant for but does the job...

all the guys I listened to and was allowed to assist when young ladle poured... the spouted Lyman works very well for me and will probably stick with it...

Have an old cast iron pan for rough smelting found lead... plumbing, keel weight, sinkers etc...

Hopefully this is going to get me the disrupted results . I came close to buying an RCBS pro melt but there aren’t any available in this country.

Thanks Wayne. Had Lee's Pro 4-20 with PID installed. Heater coil burns at least 2 of those pots and 1 had some other issues. Then i noticed on NOE's forum this one. One of Administrators found that maker and give me a hint of it. Never looked back

The nice thing about Lee Pots is that they will replace an old one that needs repair with a new one for 1/2 the original cost.

Thats pretty neat, the one that I use is 40 years old, not the greatest looking but it still works just fine

Thats true if you need few nuts and bolts. Installing afterwards good PID on Lee's pot cost more than whole pot. Yes you can change heater coil but some problems  isn't so easy to fix so i thought i already paid enough for those pots. This one is stainless steel no aluminium parts etc so it will stands probably longer than me 

Wayne: back in those days they built things differently. To last longer. Nowdays quality has gone done and it is mass product and not so well done. Heck those old Ideal molds works better than some molds which are made now...

Man, that pot is "Out of This World Nice"!


Wayne, you are so right on quality now days. My RCBS Furnace is a good unit, but there are a LOT of complaints on the new version. Ticked off customers. Slow to heat, and has issues.


Even with the PID control from the factory, it is cheaper than the old one, and shows it!  When RCBS switched to China for their manufacturing,  things went to pot. LOL
