Do you lube your pellets from all barrels?
« on: September 10, 2018, 01:44:04 PM »
As most know with the MM/WAR hammer forged .22 barrels that Jim highly recommends using lubed pellets for the best accuracy and keeping barrels easier to clean. After a good clean on my .30 barrel I decided to try out lubing the pellets to see what kind of results I could get. Well my goodness if they weren't awesome!!

All shots were taken prone with front bipod only at 53yds.

1st 5 shot group pretty bad but barrel needed to get seasoned back in so didn't think much of it

2nd 5 shot group starting to get better and I think I pulled the bottom shot. Disregard the lowest on left and right.

3rd 5 shot group much better all touching what I like to see!

4th 5 shot group NO WAY!! Best 5 shot group I ever shot at >50yds ever!!!

I ended on that note as I know I couldn't do any better lol.

From what i recall, "lubing" your pellets is known as "dieseling" your pellets. There is some pro's but one con i can remember is it can damage certain types of airguns.

Dieseling is what happens when a petroleum product ignites from compression eg : a diesel fuel engine . I have heard of it happening in a PCP but have never seen it . Dieseling in a spring air rifle  happens more often from piston / cylinder lube than from lubing pellets although I did some testing with 3in1 oil that resulted in velocities well over the speed of sound 1300 fps + . FP-10 is not flammable and should not diesel in either . I personally use 10w silicone oil for pellet lube and itís never been a problem .

Dieseling occurs with springers.

Iíve been using FP-10 for years & have never had an issue with dieseling in any of my PCPs or MSPs.

I lube everything except the Crosman cause I shoot so many them
Wash in hydro-static bath and lube with bicycle chain lube.
But, I have no evidence it does any good...
