This is with out a doubt an exciting addition to this collection. 31 years old but it looks brand new & the action of the spinners are as smooth as silk. It weighs 21 lbs but it sure seems heavier than that. They certainly don't make them like they use to.

My latest addition to the collection arrived this past Saturday. A July of '53 Benji Model 137. First time owning a short gun with the tootsie forearm grip & I am amazed something so small can survive in this condition 67 years. It is solid as a rock & appears to be shooting at full power. Amazing overall condition.

That is very nice.  For some reason I am attracted to the old front pump Benjamin.  Saw a couple at air gun shows. Seems much smaller than I thought. When in full finish they look like a blued pistol.

When in full finish they look like a blued pistol.
There are similarities in this guns finish & that of the Pre War 312. This gun does not appear to have had a round chambered, much like the 312 but both blued finishes are the same. I think it would be safe to say Benjamin was still trying to perfect its bluing technique. The under layered silver tone is quite pronounced on Both guns.

Interesting post from B.B.

kimi,

First, you own a Benjamin model 137, not a Benjamin Franklin. The name on the side of the gun is in quotes to indicate that it’s just a play on the company name.

A Benjamin 137 can be worth $20 for a parts gun all the way up to perhaps $110 if the gun has all the black nickle over all the silver nickle plating and is in the box. If you have a painted gun rather than a plated one, subtract $20 from the high number.

If the gun is down to brass all over but still works, it’s worth $40 or so.

To be worth the higher figure, the gun must be working.

B.B.

It's a clip from this blog.

https://www.pyramydair.com/blog/2005/08/dont-be-fooled-shop-for-those-vintage-airguns/

I would have thought my boxed 137 would have been worth more...
mind you.. that blog is from 2005.

There are a couple of reasons the early 340 series have been on my radar. One, the safety mechanism transitioned from the right side of the receiver on the 310 series, to the push-pull at the top of the pistol grip, & two, the “Tootsie” forearm grip remained until it transitioned into the “Checkered” grip. So “for now” the only one that remains is the checkered 340 series. After this, I’ll begin researching those strange looking front pumper’s. I haven’t a clue what those models are about.

Here is the “Tootsie” 347. quite possibly the King of this collection. If this isn’t eye candy, I don’t know what is…

It's there Scott, the 1990 342. Indecently, wasn't the checkered before the "smooth"?

I believe you are right Marty. I resealed an '83 for a co worker some time back. His was checkered. His dad bought it new an they would shoot together when he was a boy. His dad had passed and he rediscovered the gun. He didn't want to restore it cosmetically because each scratch and dent was a memory. Man, that thing was a hammer !!
