I have used a Williams peep sight on a b3 but that may cost as much as some scopes. Just an idea.

The carving jig is simple and effective way to hold the stock while carving. The piece won't move at all when the stock is screwed to the board at the forend. The wood piece with the hole in it fills the gap between the forend forks. This filler prevents the forks from snapping in case I get over exuberant.
This is my first stock mod so I am learning on the fly. The right side has a palm swell and the left is concave for the fingertips.
Lots to do yet, thought I'd show the simple jig, in case there are others who want to play.

I have to paint this and soon. I am thinking of using Ben Moore Advance house paint, in satin finish. I might be able to get Satin Impervo, which is Ben Moore's solvent based oil paint, if it is still available in Massachusetts.
What kinds of opaque paint have you all been using on gun stocks that lasts?

Thanks for the recommendation, spray-on truck bed liner is good idea. I've seen it beautifully applied to a rifle stock, but no good here, it must be solid color paint or possibly deck stain. I'm not going to find the color I want in rattle cans. There is a possibility that I can mix a color using little cans of Rustoleum oil base, but then I'm back to the Ben Moore Satin Impervo, regular mix for a 100% correct color.

Pretty much done here, this is a very blue B3 that is currently shooting just fine by me. It makes a pattern on the paper at 50 yards and is fine at 10 to 30 yards for plinking. It was really fun to modify the stock to make it a "Target" model. The thumb rest is the cherry on top to the more vertical pistol grip. This is my first try in messing with the furniture. It was fun to do, I like the change and my mods made the rifle especially mine. The gun is a goofy color, it is fun to shoot, it's OK to bang it up. This humble little B3 is is saying, "Yeah baby!"
