Info on the Dynamic Air Rifle

Lets talk about the Dynamic air rifle.

There is a couple of threads running on this AG but they have about run their course so can we summarize?  I don’t have one but from what I’ve read so far:  Wood stock (claimed to be walnut), light weight, powerful, adequate number of shots per fill, no complaints on accuracy, side lever, and regulated.  Main complaint (not surprisingly) is the poor quality of the O rings, specifically the regulator rings.

My questions are: how many of you have one, what problems did/do you have with the DAR, and at $300 would you buy it again?

I would just add one other problem, "availability of parts & replacement magazines."

I agree with David, but I hear that's going to change and Aim Sports is going to have a dedicated website to order parts direct.

I own a DAR177 and did experience the problem with the regulator o-ring.  Since being replaced, it has held air with no problem.

One other issue I had, but fixed was the sloppy cocking lever.  I drilled a ⅛" hole in a brass YH burst disk and installed it at the pivot link and it tightened things up nicely.  There is only on washer on it from the factory, there really should be two.

On a positive note, it appears to be quite tunable.  So far, Wayne has discovered the regulator is adjustable, even though he did it by accident, he really demonstrated the power his .25 cal can produce.

The hammer spring tension is also adjustable by tightening ot loosening the rear plug that holds it in place.  You do have to remove the stock and use a small spanner tool to a pair of needle nosed pliers to adjust it, but it is adjustable.

I also suspect the TP is adjustable also.  There is a set screw just in front of the trigger assembly that can be adjusted.  I found it by accident when I was reassembling my rifle after replacing the regulator o-rings.  I thought it was loose and tightened it.  This resulted in no air being allowed to enter the barrel when I pulled the trigger.  I backed it off about 3 turns, not really knowing what it was or where it should have been set.  The result was my pellet speed for 10.5gr CPUM's increased from an average 735 fps to an average 903 fps!  That's a pretty serious increase, so I either allowed a lot more air to push that pellet, or the regulator was just out of whack due to the o-ring failing.  Anyway, I'm happy with a .177 that's producing almost 20 FPE!

I just got mine back from Aim Sports today, the original would not hold air, also a regulator o-ring per Rich at AS. They sent me a new one and pressure tested it before shipping it to me. I put air in it this afternoon after work, so far it's holding air ok. Mounted my scope and did a little pellet testing after cleaning the shipping sludge from the barrel, to early to tell yet but so far the JSB 18.13 have been the best of the three pellets I had on hand to test. No time for chrony testing, maybe next week on my day off. Noise level isn't bad, close to my Marauder before re-tuning with TSS springs. Side lever needs shimmed as mentioned above, will work on that next week. Have to fly out of town tomorrow so no time to play with things till I get back. The trigger isn't bad but needs to be adjusted to lighten it up a bit, overall weight also not bad but considerably heavier with a scope attached now. (heavy scope) If I found anything to pick at on the stock it's that the rake is a bit fat in the hand, but I'm used to the synthetic stock on my Marauder which is fairly thin. The magazine is a bit fiddly, and I had to adjust the spring tension to make it advance properly but worked ok afterward. The magazine loads the same way as the Diana Stormrider if I remember the videos I've seen of it correctly. After revolving the cover plate to the stop position the first pellet has to be inserted from the back skirt side first, then the rest will load nose first from the other side. The magazine also doesn't snap into place the way my Marauder mag does, so I have a hard time telling if it's ok to close the side lever. I won't say it's bad, but it will take some getting used to. These are all first impressions and can change some as I become more familiar with the rifle.

They do have a lot of potential but they're definitely for the tinkerer's right now.  Not really an out of the box gun in my opinion.

I'm glad you got your rifle replaced with not too much trouble.   

Does your replacement look like it came from the same batch or is it new production?  The reason I ask is that all of the new old stock BAM B51's that I have bought came with dried out and jellified o-rings.  Those were much older production though and I knew that going in.

Instead of removing the lever, could an e-clip take up the slack?  I read someone had a problem removing the pivot rod because it was corroded.

The batch of o rings that I got from ebay weren't right, hopefully the batch I got coming from the O ring store online are, they're Buna n 70 duro too, they should work.
Last night I razor bladed of a little of two oversized ones and managed to get them to seal fairly good but still a slow leak from probably the other two on either end of the airtube.
I was able to adjust the regulator a little closer to where I wanted it but I need to turn it down to preferably a 10 shot string at near 60fpe or a little less. 

At least now I know where I'm at with it.  I based this string at pellets weight 34.5 grains but after weighing some more that I cast this morning I got a lot of them right at
about 34.8 grains, my next string I'll sort out a bunch that are real close to 34.8 grains and that'll give me a more accurate result.

I'm really wanting one of these in .177.  I dont know if the price is a special introductory offer or will remain the same for the next several months. I would kind of like to wait for a new batch and see if there are any noticable differences. I already have 2 projects working and dont have the time to tinker with one right now, although I enjoy that sort of stuff when I get the time. As long as it's not too complex or requires any machining. Any input?

Mike, regardless of whether you get one now or later, these are super simple to work on. Replacing the o-rings on the regulator was just a matter of removing the barrel band, unscrewing the air tube then unscrewing the fill port/air gauge and pushing the regulator out with a wooden dowel. The nice thing with these is there’s really no sharp edges on the inside of the tube, so with a little silicone grease, the regulator is really easy to slide in and out.

Thanks Paul, your making it really hard to patiently wait..... Ha... I think it's my experience with the VEVOR air compressor that's making me a little cautious.  Several people had great luck with them, but mine was (and still is)  in constant need of repair. Second stage rings, check valve, springs etc. with no parts source. At least there is a rep. who sounds like he would chase things down to get parts etc if need be, and that's a real positive for this gun. Replacings o-rings would be no big deal (I hope).

Mike if you do order one make sure you check the trigger mecha because the trigger adjustment screw on mine was almost seized up, boy was I in for a surprise when I finally got the trigger guard off after some heavy duty coaxing, they do kinda spring open once you start getting them out and man was there a lot of salt on everything in the mecha, when SG starts getting parts for them I'll be ordering probably every screw that's in the trigger mechanism, I did clean them all up the best that I could with a brass brush but some of them have little craters in them from the salt.  I've got the trigger working pretty darned good now but I'm sure I could do some smoothing out on things which would improve it more yet.  I'll be taking mine out in the woods for a test run tomorrow, ought be fun !

If you guys haven't seen it already, here's what I'm getting since I put the new o rings in.  Since finally getting this gun working good I'm liking it more. Super good for hunting and from previously shooting it I think it's going to be really accurate too. I also turned the regulator down too.

this is looking to be a really good gun for the money

some of you may be right in that this is a SPA, i can't seem to place it but you may be right, SPA site changed they seem to be missing a few models but they added a soundtrack, i believe the missing models maybe coming under the Dynamic name if it isn't that Diana taking on more of the line up, Dynamic logo has a "Artimus" look also, if it is not SPA then its BAM building it

now i need to get me one!!!!!!

I they would more likely to be BAM, the gauge threads are bigger on these than the SPA's , probes are smaller in diameter, triggers are much different, regulator is much different.  I have the SPA M16  and it's much different than the DAR for sure.  They both have difference's that are good and bad for either one.  I think the worse things about the DAR are the fact that the one I got wasn't protected from the salt air on it's boat ride from China, that salt is hard on exposed mechanism's like the trigger in my case.  The o rings on the DAR are really substandard.

 i had a feeling it was BAM,  SPA only listing 6 pcp's now gone are the bull pups except m10, p12 under new airguns
