Don't see how that is possible with swaging.

Seeems like it would have to be the purity of the lead that they were using to vary a lot because in reality lead cant be compressed beyond getting the air out of it

Are you guys putting lead straight to pot or melting it first and using sawdust etc. to clear oxidation first and then make ingots for casting pot?

Using That sawdust etc. is very good way to get rid off oxidation. That sand like thrash which you need to skim off top of pot and it occasionally raises up on bottom of pot.
After putting sawdust on melting pot at very start and keep adding in when lead melts and mix that in every place put a lid back on melting pot and put some tinfoil round melting pot and waite untill no smoke coming out off melting pot you get nice and clear lead.

Learned from castboolits. I was so tired to skim that oxidation and thrash out off pot... So this way little more work but that oxidation and trash isn't problem any more

Same as you but never tried tin foil. LOL, what is the mirrored interior bowl?

For Sawdust, I use red cedar shavings.
Smells much better! LOL

It was just there to where put cinders/ ash from sawdust. It was so dry because no raining a long time so i woldn't not wanna take any risk for sparks getting in to grass. Had also fire extinguisher ready. Don't know what sawdust was but i smelled smoke long time

. Wiser guy who know more about chemistry say it must be quite tight that carbon monoxide can do the job.

I use Anhydrous Borax before casting to clean the lead, just a little shake and scrape off the dross. I only have to do this once during a pour session. It helps with the mold filling evenly, less cast rejects.

I Have a sneaking suspicion as to just why some are having accuracy issues,and especially spiraling issues with this pellet. Mine were terrible at first.

The skirt is simply too long. Yes, give good bc, but it is much longer than even the 34 gr JSB.

As the base fo any cast bullet is the guiding factor in the flight of the projectile, any imperfection in the base of such a long skirt will have the effect of much greater leverage on the CG of the projectile, causing it to want orbit around the center of gravity, hence, wobble and spiraling.

Why, oh Why did the successful design have to be so drastically changed?

The redesigned .30 cal, which works great, was scaled down exactly to create this .25 cal.... The LOA is slightly greater than the 34 gr. JSB, but the head, because of the Meplat is shorter.... That does result in a longer skirt as you say.... but it works in the .30 cal....

Perhaps the .25 is just that much harder to cast the imperfections are more frequent and show up more?.... The design could be shortened (requiring a new tool for NOE) but the resulting pellets would be lighter, of course....

Just from one pour so far I do think these can be cast... but you do have to get everything right to get good bases... I wish I was feeling better and I might have kept up... I do wonder if Al would sell me a couple pins that leave thicker skirts just might help make it a touch easier to get good fill out would probably help with the aluminum molds more than it would the brass...

Another casting session today .Best looking to date.

Test, pure shotgun. Had a few JSB 34 left and tired them to be sure it wasn't' a gun issue. Pinpoint.

No wrinkles. No inclusions, weighed, but every skirt looked slightly thicker on one side than the other. Stumped!

I do know this, the tail is wagging the dog.

Michael I tumbled my last batch for about and hour then sorted them I also rejected some that had the same problem with thin skirts on one side, the only thing I can figure is the mold couldn't have been shut all the way

I took a photo of the pins and it looks maybe thicker skirt than the almost .16 in the drawing... should be plenty...

guys it sounds like the pins are set to loose... I tightened the screws down and then made it so the pins would not fall open...held pin in cavity with thumb... small crescent wrench up... then down just a a hair till they drop open with a good shake... If you can push the pins up any when they are in the cavity then they are to loose...they have to be perfectly set with my mold... they almost do not want to leave the cavity

on aluminum molds might have to run them different...

Kirby I think you might be on to something there, that's basically about how my brass mold was set the way it came from NOE, I still haven't poured any lead in mine yet.

... I just spent a day casting, with all the pins, an did a larger run of the lightest ones. but found out quick the pin guides need to be set snug.
I ran some solids to get the hang of it, then worked with the others , getting the pins and mold broke in, did clean up a few small burrs on the mold, and the pins might need a little polishing. But after doing an extended run on the light ones, it was looking like this might be an option.
I did shoot a handful out of my 125 hatsan just to test fit to bore, they were a nice fit and 10 yard off hand group lookd promising. The Bull Boss Test will be the long range decider
