New Mrod

Hi All ! I have a new Mrod in wood and am having trouble with it shoots to the left 1in with the the scope tracked almost all the way to the right..  Tried 2 scopes the scope i want to use is a Burris 30 mm & i have dove tail mounts ...  Sun optics adj mounts?? Or send the gun back to crossman?  Thanks Mike

I would send it back!

Try this first.  Loosen the front shroud mount (two hex screws), then rotate the shroud CW to stop against the breech then back off 1/2 turn CCW.  Then tighten the front shroud mount after centering it with the shroud with even spacing on all sides.

I had the same problem with mine when it was returned to me after having it tuned.
Follow Keith’s advice and you should be good.

By front shroud mount do you mean barrel strap? the shroud would be the tube over the actual barrel? Is the shroud threaded?

Yes and yes.  The shroud shouldn't be touching the shroud mount at all.

it should be centered thru the barrel band hole

Yes, barrel band is a better term.  I guess I had a brain fart this morning and called it a shroud mount, lol which is on the breech end of the barrel, sorry.

The more i look at this the barrel or the dovetail isnt square with the action.. The barrel band and shroud is canted to the left and the shroud is centered in the band..

If it were mine, I would just go through it and make sure all is lined up properly.  The four breech screws need to be tightened down evenly so the barrel is lined up with the air tube and the two barrel screws on top of the breech need to be tight also. They are really simple to work on.  However, you may void your warranty taking it apart too much so that would be your call.  If it groups well out to at least 25 yards I would keep it.  If not, I would send it back quick.

The outer part of the barrel (shroud) simply unscrews.  It actually has threads on both ends, and either end can be screwed into the receiver.  So you simply unscrew the plug at the end of the muzzle, empty the baffles out, then unscrew the shroud.

Problem is, the ends of the shroud often aren't cut straight, so when you tighten the shroud fully hand tight, it can point off in one direction.  Often times, one end is machined a lot more square than the other, so you can turn the entire thing around, and try screwing the muzzle end into the receiver.  (mine was MUCH more square in one direction than the other)

The key, is to watch for the barrel to cant one way or the other when tightening it all the way down hand tight.  Here's the kicker...  You're not supposed to tighten it all the way hand tight.  You tighten it all the way, then loosen it a tad.  This way, it doesn't cock one way or the other, and shoots straight.

Can't hurt to try it.

Mine arrived from the factory with the barrel band pressing the shroud to the left. I just realigned it. Disappointing QA at the factory.

any shroud can be bumped out of alignment in shipping. Period.

If an owner cannot, or is not, mechanically inclined enough to simply loosen the barrel shroud brace at the front of the airtube, and let the barrel flex back into alignment, Perhaps a PCP is beyond the owners scope of capabilities. A PCP is an animal that has to be watched of carefully.

Not many are plug and play. I am surprised at the people saying send it back. It is PCP 101 to learn the basics of accuracy, and there are good suggestions here.

In an effort to stright forward, if an ag is to be sent back for such a simple, straightforward issue, that can happen any time a shrouded ag is shipped, Perhaps it is better to stick with red ryders. LOL 

Really, things have to be learned. Shipping back and becoming a problem customer, to be avoided and is not the answer. 

Ask here, as there are many willing to help. and a few that seem to think the sky if falling with every tiny issue. 

I strongly suggest ignoring the latter, and listening to the old hats here!

The barrel and shroud are off center of the air tank (tube) and not square with the receiver, Hence it shoots over 7in to the left at 25 yds   The shroud  threads are not cut square with the receiver.  I am a  Machinists and could make it right  But it is only a week old and under warranty Again thank you to most of you for your support and positive help !

A PCP is an animal that has to be watched [over] carefully. ... Not many are plug and play.

My journey with airguns started about a year-and-a-half ago. I've learned a lot from the experienced people on this air gun forum and other forums.

Most of my experience with rifles previously was 22lr. Wow! There is a world of difference in terms of cost, repeatability and reliability between a 22lr and a precision air gun. This might make a nice essay to put as a sticky above the PCP gate on this form for new folks considering the purchase of a PCP (or springer for that matter).

Learning air guns has been part of the enjoyment for me. I appreciate all the advice and help I've gotten. Treating newbies with respect is also a highly appreciated virtue. This forum is loaded with such advice (although, perhaps not 100%). 🙂

A Marauder is a mass production item.  It's not a hand built, European air gun with a $1,500 price tag.  You get a LOT for your money when purchasing one of these guns...  but one has to keep in mind that they are a mass produced item, and often require a little TLC.  PCP air guns are very complex...  much more complex than a powder burner.

Many machinists enjoy the process of tweaking these guns for better performance and accuracy. 

My advice...   If your point of impact problem is only the shroud, take a couple minutes on the lathe, and square it up...  as the next gun will likely not be perfect, either.  You can also turn the shroud around to see if the other side is more square.  (worked on my gun) 

To test if the BARREL itself is the culprit, you could remove the shroud completely, and try shooting it like that.  If it still shoots far to the left, by all means, send it back. 

Usually, if it's the shroud, you can watch the barrel lean one way or the other while tightening the shroud that last half turn.  (judge by how it sits in the barrel band)  By the way, the barrel band can also be adjusted by loosening the small hex screws that hold it in place.  It's handy.  I like turning it to ensure the shroud is not touching all the way around.

With a strait edge on the receiver the shroud is 0.093 to the left at the muzzle   with it loose or tight i cant move it short of flexing it and it goes right back.  I rolled the shroud   on my ground surface plate  its relativity strait.  When i pull everything out of the shroud and look down it the barrel is on the right side of the shroud ..So my guess is the receiver is threaded out of center . Thats why i sent it back. IF the new one or my old one  comes back in  similar condition Its going to be repaired my way..
