Gamo Urban fix for 2 main issues

The Gamo Urban is a great PCP for the price.  but after having 3 of them it seems almost all of them have two minor issues.

1.  They can't be zeroed with a scope.   

2.  The magazine does not cycle without the probe jaming.

All three of mine had one or both issues.

The Barrel Band is not needed, it cause all the POI issues.   
It seems the air tube is not parralle with the barrel.  On mine the air tube is angle down.   Putting the barrell Band on flexes the barrel down so much the gun will shoot very low and will not be able to zero it.

Same goes for left and right, the band is so tight if you push the barrel to one side it will stay there.  Some people had guns point so far left or right they ran out of l/R turret adjustment on their scopes.

FIX1 - Cut the band off.    I slid the band over the brass  fill area put some protective tape under it so I would not marr it.  Then cut it with a hacksaw blade and finished it off using some cutter pliars. 
Once i did this the barrel poped up to where it should be and it was easy to sight in.   
The barrel is very thick and strong, it does not need a band.   

FIX2 - Shim the magazine stop by putting some black electrical tape between it and the stock.   You have to remove the stock to do it.   That stop is only plastic and has some give.   What happens on some guns is that stop gives too much and allows the magazine to be slid in too far.   This makes the hole out of alignment with the probe.   The result is rough cycling and torn probe O rings.

I like mine much better wtih the barrel band off.   The barrel flexes and snaps back into position on bumps.  Before if you bumped it it would stay which changed the POI.

Did you try loosening the barrel band? Or check the suppressor for burrs.

Not 100 percent of them have these issues but many do.  Air Gun Depot told me these are very common.   

All three of mine would group at 50 yards, so they are all decent shooters.   Just some of them will eat up most of the turret travel left, right or up.   I could have done nothing on one of mine but I would have to use the 4th mildot down at 30 yards as the turret on two different 30mm scopes ran out.

The barrel band was tight on all of them, so a bump will cause POI to shift as the barrel can't stap back to its original position.


Its a combination of quality control and price point plus the trades offs they made on the magazine centering.  (they don't have a centering peg like BSA scorpion and the stop is thin plastic not steel)

No its was not neither of those things.   You can't loosen the band even with the little screw, its a one piece one size fits all.  If the tubes did not diverge its would not have been an issue.   If I get another Urban I would still cut the band off even if the air tube and breach were parallel.  The band should be made so there is a gap all around the barrel.  Its only purpose would be to take a big hit on the barrel.   The barrel is a BSA forged, its pretty solid.

Its the air tube and the barrel were not parallel.    The gap is larger near the end of the barrel than at the breach.   So without a band you can actually see the gap grow wider.   

Two ways to fix
1.  remove the air tube from breach and shim it so the tube and barrel are parallel.
2.  remove the barrel Band which was pulling the barrel down.  This allows the barrel to pop up so its in line with the breach.

My Urban magazine has a centering peg.   But the plate is plastic.   Can the steel BSA plate be used?

All the magazines have the centering hole.  Its used on a BSA Scorpion.  You put the magazine in and then slide a locking pin into the magazine.   It never gets out of alignment that way.   On the Urban they choose not to use that option.   

I'm not sure if the steel stop can be used.  The shape is different.  You would have to drill and tap the breach and maybe have to shim it to get it to center the magazine.   A bit of work,  I think the tape is easier.

I just loosen the screw on the barrel band all the way and the gun has stayed consistent. It really likes the JSB 15.8 pellets and I'm liking the gun more now that I have an SCBA tank to fill her with. More shooting and no pumping.

A couple of weeks ago I had an issue with the magazine. The magazine had become misaligned, and causing the cocking bolt to bind. The misalignment and binding chewed up the small oring on the pellet probe of the bolt. For whatever reason, the issue resolved itself. I replaced the oring and this time lubed with a bit of silicone grease on the entire pellet probe. Cocking is now smooth again, and I cock the bolt much, much slower, especially on advancement into and through the magazine. However, some times the probe still "catches", so when this happens, I pulled bolt back and lightly and slowly jiggle the bolt back and fourth until it finds it's way into the magazine.

My Urban has been a very accurate gun, untouched, straight out of the box. Killing paintballs at 30yd, with cheapo CPHP, from a sitting off-hand position, is plenty good for me. I'm not messing with the barrel band, since it doesn't seem to be affecting my accuracy.

Oh for sure, having a tank is great.   Mine shoots the JSB 15.9 well.    I find in the 24-29 fpe guns the 15.9s are usually little more accurate than the 18s.

One of mine was like that. 

When you feel the bolt hit the edge of the magazine hold the magazine and push it inward and outward while gently pushing the bolt in and out.   You will be able to feel if the magazine is TOO far in or not far enough.   

On mine if you pulled the magazine out just a small amount it did not catch at all.   I suspect yours is like that and putting a little bit on shim on that stop will fix the cycling.

Mine cycles well now, I can rapid load 10 shots quickly without any sticking.

Looks like you added a suppressor on top of the existing.

Yea some 2” pvc with 1” pvc baffles inside steel wool and cit the sound signature down to just the action noise basically.
