Triple Patch

Just wanted to share this with you guys if you are into airguns that make it easy and fun to clean the barrel.

I've had a Thomas rifle for the past two years and it has been by far my easiest rifle to clean the barrel. No breech oring in the way. Just flip the swing port over and slap a one inch patch on the end of my Tipton Carbon fiber rod and push her though. Absolutely could not get easier.

I have since shrouded the barrel to take the bark out of her, so I will admit to taking the end cap out of the shroud when I do this now.

Ever since the Thomas, I have wanted another gun I could clean the barrel with a carbon fiber rod!!!!!

Well....Whallah!!!!!...Introduce the Edgun R5M!!!!!!


As you know the Edgun is so easy to take apart and put back together. If this ol’ flunky can do it, anybody can. But what is cool with the Edgun and I just discovered this today....

Of course if you have watched Ed's videos you can take the action completely off the back of the gun with just one hex head screw. Then unscrew the moderator and take the baffle out.And Whallah!!!! Clean it just like the Thomas.

Schmells bells……I even found a way to clean it with the .177 jag!!!!! I just stack 3 one inch patches on the end of the .177 jag and it’s the perfect circumference to make a squeaky tight pass through the .25 cal barrel. Got more &^^& out of the barrel this way than with the Patchworm with .25 cal coded sleeve? And I do love my Patchworm on .22 cal barrels.  Just stack a wet patch on the outermost stack of patches and you don’t even have to worry if you over saturated it because the two dry patches under it will absorb the excess!

Yippy Kye Yay….got two guns that are super easy to clean now!

I have seen so many tricks to keep from losing patches in the LDC's that I can't count all of them right now. 

Been using a neutered bore snake for a few years, and the weed whacker line system, along with a drinking straw in the LDC itself.

Looking at a pile of put away cleaning supplies lately, I noticed the slotted end tip fitting for my Tipman.

With all the wild as sane systems out there for cleaning an Airgun with a LDC in place, not once have I ever seen the slotted jag mentioned. Ever!

Works just fine, with nothing lost in the baffles. Done and Done!

Now that I have re-discovered the tool I used for my .22's as a kid, I am left wondering just why it is skipped over by today's shooters of airguns.

Michael, you probably know more about cleaning barrels than this ol' boy as I have no fire arm cleaning experience. Never even scoped a gun till I got my first Gamo in 2013!!!LOL

I hadn't even thought about the slotted jag? I use the pointed jag and just pierce through the center of the one inch patch or patches in the Edgun's case!

Now for my Crickets, I use the Patchworm with the coded sleeves. The .22 cal sleeve works the best. Man, it get's my .22 barrels squeaky clean. Just unthread the LCD off the end of the barrel and have at it. My three Kalibrguns the LCD's just unscrew. Super easy to take off and put back on, plus doesn't hurt to inspect the insides of them while you're at it?

Now for my .177 barrel Cricket. I have to use 2 stacked one inch patches on the Patchworm to make it squeak as it slides down the barrel. Does a fine job!

I tried the Patchworm on the Edgun with the .25 coded sleeve and it was looser than the .177 sleeve in the Cricket was with one patch? So I tried to stack two one inch patches on the .25 sleeve and it would not fit into the barrel it was so tight?

So finding out I can do the triple patch with the Tipton is a god send!

PS. I had a friend come over and use my Patchworm with the .22 sleeve on his Taipan and he loved it. Say's he's going to get one. Steve Sciallii over at AEAC has the best video on how to use it. He sold me on it. I've kicked my crown saver to the curb!

I got mine from Brother Ken Hicks over at SPAW.

Here's what I found out. It pays to get both the .177 and the Pocket Field kit with caliber coded sleeves from .20 cal on up to 12 gauge shot gun.

OK, the .177 Patch worm has the blue line and it works great in anything .177.
Now if you want to do .22 cal get the Pocket Field kit of course. It has the green line.

Now here's the clicker. The green line by itself ,you would think would work in the .177 right? Wrong....it has the .20 cal sleeve made onto the end of it and we all know .20 cal won't fit into a .177 barrel.

OK, onto using the patchworms to clean the .22 barrel. I found it best to use my .177 blue line with the .22 cal coded sleeve from the Pocket Field kit instead of the green line. It's pretty tight quarters in the breech area of the Crickets and the Taipans and the blue line just bends and fits in there better. I had to cut the short pull length off the back of my .177 line completely off as it was making it hard to get into the breech. Now it works like a champ on those .22 barrels.

I have to use 2 patches on the blue line for my .177 Cricket to make it squeaky tight though.  I use Aero Kroil for my solvent by the way.

So, I bought the Field Pocket kit, the .177 kit and the bag of 7/8" 500 count patchworm cleaning patches. I also have a huge bag of one inch round patches. The Patchworm patches seem to be just a hair more abrasive? Can't find the right word for that .but they seem to clean better! I'll buy another bag when I use all these!

The patchworm is awesome and makes cleaning super easy.  I love to drizzle a little ballistol on my patchworm salad.

  Lol. I have noticed that the patchworm "plugs" do seem to be a little undersized.   With just one patch there doesn't seem to be much resistance when pulling through.  Might try 2 next time.

Come to think of it the .22 worked perfectly in my EDgun but the .25 is too small on my Warp .25 barrel...  I might try adding a wrap or two of tape on it to make it a little thicker.  I think 2 patches may be too much.

Been called a lot of things but that's the first time anyone's ever called me that lol.    Trying to think of something more permanent if the tape falls off frequently but I guess it wont be hard to re-apply it.  I will try it tomorrow as my guns due for a good clean.
