Hey everyone, I decided to make the switch to air guns a few months ago. I never realized how large this community really is! I haven’t bought an air rifle yet but was considering a few guns. I was going to try and plink in my backyard but my neighbors are right next to me. I live in a small townhouse that is connected to four others. Even though it is a small house, I have a fenced in yard that is about 15 yards of shooting space. No one would be able to see me, but I would be worried someone will hear me shooting. If that is the case, my brother in law told me I could shoot on his hunting property. Although I don’t want to drive to shoot, I may have to do so to prevent my neighbors calling the police on me.

A few guns I have considered: stoeger x20s .177 or .22 from pyramid air $99 eventually put a grt III trigger on it and a different scope like maybe a Leapers bug buster. I have researched this gun and read you can flip the washer around to make the rifle quieter. Not sure if this is true but sounds like it would work by reducing the gun’s power in half.

The next gun I was considering was a flying dragon gun by MM. The xs25 .22 $225 sounds like a great rifle after mike does his full tune on it.

Some others may be the rws 34 or even some HW model. While the price of guns begins to jump up significantly, is it better to just by the stoeger and save up for something else that is of higher German quality down the road?

Lastly, what would be your thoughts of just getting a cheap daisy 880 Powerline from Walmart?

Budget around 150 - 200
Want quiet air rifle for backyard 15 yards
Be able to shoot to 50 yards if taken to brother in laws hunting land

I bought an NP2 first and thought it was not a bad choice, 2nd came the Beeman R7 ( tuned) and found out how good the German guns really are. R7 will shoot 1/8 dots consistently in my 33 ft basement range with crosman hollow points, $4.50 a tin on sale. If you think the German rifle is in the future any way just get it first because out of the two that is what you'll be shooting. The lower the power the less noise it will make, but they all make noise. Yes give Flying Dragon a call he can help you out. Good luck on your new venture.

A lot of people here will tell you there is nothing wrong with the Daisy 880! Do the suggested mods on the Daisy gate and you'll see how great it shoots.  just saying...

Definitely get a Daisy 880.
Mine is pretty quiet on 3-5 pumps ( I use 3 in my hallway ) and is pretty darn accurate / easy to shoot inside 20yds as I like to shoot. Pumping may not sound great, but you don't have to use 10 all the time and 3-5 takes very little effort.
With springers you get one power level and if it's too loud for your liking that's it, they're also hold sensitive.

My 880 does sub 1/2" groups at 10 yds on 3 pumps with crosman piranha pellets which cost $6 for 500 at Walmart.

The variable power and low noise are some advantages to pumpers, as well as them not requiring any special holding technique.

The 880 shoots pretty well without mods, but they are a major improvement and easy / free.

Ricky, welcome! Your budget says up to $200....if that is without scope etc...I would recommend the Gamo Urban which is about $210 from Walmart, Amazon....more quiet than springers, easier to shoot. Pump is around $40 Ebay....then a scope...just a thought.

And to touch on that, with the 880 you can stick to 3 pumps and shoot I doors if necessary.
If your neighborhood doesn't allow airgun shooting you could still shoot in your house, which they couldn't stop if they did know.

P34 or a tuned xisco from mike at flying dragon.  That x20s is a good gun as well.  I own one and it’s quiet and accurate.  I got a 99$ deal w scope and it was probably the best scope I’ve gotten in a combo from pyramid.  Good luck w whatever you decide on.

   You could go with a vintage Sheridan, one of the best air rifles ever made , in my opinion . Power &&& NOISE changes with the number of pumps. I use 3 pumps for target shooting in my backyard. You could pump up to 8 times to use for hunting at your brother-in-laws place.

Lots of good advice on what to buy, here. Won't add much to a rifle suggestion, other than to say I've never known anyone to regret spending the extra money to get an HW30S/R7. We have a sizable collection of air guns, including airguns of all types and airguns in all price ranges, but the HW30S is number one in terms of hours of use.

One thing that I would strongly advise, no matter what you choose, is to get an air gun with a good trigger, either out of the box or one that is easy to mod. At the low velocities of airguns, a good trigger is a vital element in air gun accuracy. A bad trigger on an airgun is a surefire way to ruin the air gun shooting experience.

plus 1 for the ability to vary power and noise...i would suggest a Crosman Custom Shop kt1300......as the upgrade paths for the the sub $75 rifles (not pistols) is extremly limited....the Crosman 13XX and 24XX series are wide open fields of play....once you buy a Custom from Crosman, you can order anything from their Custom line and that is the absolute cheapest way to get option parts...this does become an advantage to most airgunners as these guns are known as Lego Guns, that are that easy to change around...want a 14" barrel today?, 15 minutes to change it...want 24" tomorrow, 15 minutes......want a TARGET trigger?, 30 minutes( a bit pricy, but WOW what a trigger!)...you name it
