Although not an RWS 48, I've softbedded several of my Hatsans using the 1/8th inch neoprene and it works very well for dampening vibration. People mention clamping to get the action back in the stock and the screws in because the thing to remember is that the neoprene is going to compress over time and create that rubber cushion between your action and stock, so what you think is too thick now, won't be after you get done.Done right, you tighten all the screws and let the rifle sit for a day. Tighten again on day 2. It may only be an 1/8th or maybe a 1/4 turn but tighten them and let it sit for another day. then repeat the process one last time and you're done.
The springer double recoil is with all of us forever. Most use the artillery hold technique to keep it under control. The soft bedding idea is intriguing. I hope you report before and after results to see if there is real accuracy differences. Is the barrel free floating with the action soft bedded? Not sure I understand the steps involved. It seems that it would be dampening the vibration of the rifle and action but not holding it tight? Interestingly, this goes counter to the discussion about pillar bedding the action screws to get them to right tension. NCED may chime in here as he was the source of the air gun pillar bedding concept. I shoot the recoilless types (RWS 54 and FWB 300) because I didn't do well using the artillery hold. They must free-recoil in their sledge systems to be effective. Dave

Many people find the first few shots in a shooting session are a bit off from the expected zero particularly if the weather and rifle are cold to start with. May need to "warm" up the innards a bit to stabilize everything and warm up the lubricant to working temperature. As a new shooter you are doing pretty darn good for starters. Keep up the practice. this hobby can become addictive.Dave
Well done!A canted rifle could produce that windage error.Did you ever consider using helicopter rotor tape? It is about the toughest thing out there... -Y
If you're seriously considering the HW97K, you might want to consider getting it from Krale and not PA. The wife might be way more inclined to say yes when she sees how much you'll save which is very substantial unless you really want to pay an extra $249.99 for the rifle:
