Air dryer for the F10 shoebox air compressor
« on: January 26, 2018, 05:19:13 PM »
Just ordered a F10 Shoebox compressor. I was wondering about a air dryer on the input side of the shoebox.  From what information I have read or video I have seen, it does not need one because the shop air compressor will take out  the water in the air.  Other soures shows small or large shop air driers on the output of the 125psi shop compressor.  Then there is the Molecular Sieve air dryer from Air tanks for sale and that is the only water trap mounted on the system.
New to this.  Any suggestions on a system to remove water from the system?  Sorry if it sounds like dumb question.

On the low side I run a cheap shop compressor air dryer / filter I think it is only rated at 90 PSI , but it hasn't failed in over a year and I run it @ 125 PSI, It does trap any remaining moisture, and on the high side I run one of Air Tanks For Sale filters, very dry air on the output.

I've owned a pair of Shoeboxes but have graduated to a Carette compressor.  I can tell you that the best bang for the buck desiccant filter there is for a Shoebox is the Wilkerson X06-02-000.   It is the perfect size and you connect it between your first stage compressor and the Shoebox.  The desiccant beads are easy to recharge by removing the bowl which is held on by a twist of the bowl until it snaps into place with an o ring seal.  They cost about $70 and the desiccant will last you for many years.  Dry it in a shallow pan in a toaster oven at low heat after the beads change color from blue to pink.  The desiccant comes with the Wilkerson.  Anything more such as an output high pressure filter is a waste of money and overkill.  I used a shoebox with this filter for years and my tanks stayed dry as a bone.
