BSA single shot tray

I have noticed a very minor rotational movement of the one printed for me when closing the bolt.   I think it may be associated with the cutout on the lower right that the Urban magazine does not have (or lack of metal to interact with the magnet).   The cutout allows only minimal contact with the triangular plastic piece in the receiver.   I am going to manually fill that and contour to match the stock magazine.   That will also give more support for a metal insert.

I've been having a blast designing and printing air rifle parts.  Beats the boredom at work. If you have spare $$,  a good tool to our darkside tool arsenal is a 3d printer.

I finally got around to hacking on the the 3D printed loader from www.thingiverse.com to make it into a tray.  Not a great work of art and if I can get another will change it a bit.

1. First filled the notch at the lower right of the loader with JB Weld thinking it may be needed to contour it like the BSA magazine but that is not necessary and makes no different.

2. Drilled about 3/4 of the way through the loader and epoxied a 1/4" piece of drill rod to catch on the magnet in the receiver.

3. Cut out the upper right side to allow pellet insertion while in the receiver.   BTW, the 3D printed loader is not completely solid - it has a lattice-like structure and the cutout had to be filled with JB Weld.

Leaned the following:

The loading port must be lowered on the right to make it horizontal (like Jay's rendition above).  The BSA/Gamo solid top receiver has the barrel mounted quite high and there is not very much room for dropping in the pellet with the port as currently modified.

The drill rod is not close enough to the magnet.   The loader/tray will be pulled in the last 1/8" but does not hold as firmly as I would like.   The drill rod should be at least half way into the small notch at the lower right of the loader.

The hacking is complete.

Does the tray have to come out to load a pellet?

No, that was the purpose of all the hacking out of material, and the steel insert to hold it in the receiver.   Not perfect, but a start.   It will be better with the right side lowered - cannot say as yet if it can be as good as an open top receiver like a Marauder or similar design.

Edit:  I should say my only intent with this was mostly an emergency device in case of a magazine failure.

Just printed version 2.  Ain't perfect but better than version 1.  The pellet slot has to be smaller in height by about 3 mm to prevent the pellet from tumbling the wrong way.  Hope it works.  So off to version 3.  Work is getting the way.

Nice work I wish I could make things from scratch. I have an original Prusa 3D printer and just printed a single shot tray for my Armada today. I also see you are just up the mountain from me.

No, the insert is a piece of steel rod 1/4" diameter.   The magnet is in the rifle's receiver.   The steel insert should be larger and slightly relocated.

I got another loader (not tray) and changed the steel insert to 3/16" and located it to overhang the lower right side notch.   Much better retention - snaps in nicely.    (picture to follow - needs to be downsized)

Here's a good version of the single shot tray.  I used a cut paper clip to guide the pellet in the groove so it does not tumble.  Also another paper clip as a guide on one side.  Epoxied the cut clip on holes on the printed guide.  Will have to test it some more.

Probably a silly idea, but if you are taking the tray in and out for each shot, why not use the regular mag. and only load one pellet at a time.  After much thought (about three seconds) it is a silly idea.

The tray is NOT designed to be taken out after every shot.  Just drop the pellet and it rolls down by gravity in front of the probe.

Yes,  if you have to remove it after every shot then it is a useless design.  My intended use for the tray is for field target.  For safety reason, they ask you to remove mag when moving stations.
