to their Sentry's.
 
It appears that we don't have any 177 cal's on board.
I am thinking REAL HARD on one for heavy weight pellet shooting, as it appears that this model either 702 or 705 models, have the horsepower to work very well.

I am waiting to see the slug/heavy weight results etc.

Here are the measurements of the 22 cal, bbl grooves and ports,
there is 3 grooves, the bbl air port groove sits between the 2 outside "O" ring grooves.

Outside length distance of the square cut "O" ring grooves = .405",
Inside length distance of the "O" ring grooves = .245",
Groove width = .075",
Depth of the "O" ring groove = .055".

The barrel air port groove sets in this .245" space between the "O" rings.

The groove for the barrel air ports is .115" wide and .060" deep,
with a wall thickness of .063",
with the 3 round air ports spaced around this groove, every 120*,
with a hole diameter of .105".

I have a 702-5 in .177.  I got this one in .177 because the smaller form factor seemed to make sense with the smaller caliber.  Mods are slow in coming because I have to work and have a tight deadline right now.

On another note, I had MM do a full tune on this one.  The trigger was really nice, so it inspired me to try to do the same with my 705-9.  When I took off the face plate on the trigger, the sear pin came with it!  Ugh.  I had to take the trigger off the action.  I got it back together correctly with the help of some online videos - EXCEPT for the fact that I can't get the rear screw to engage.  It seems too short.  The front one that screws into the shoe and is supposed to be the more difficult one wasn't much of a problem at all.  But I'll be danged if I can get that rear screw to engage.  Anyone have any similar experiences?  How did you get it in?

The top screw #44 has a hex head, is shorter than the trigger screw, (same thread size)
and this part#50 needs to have the correct holes, in the proper location,
there is a spacing difference in the screw holes.

If this part screw holes is not located correctly, you can NOT get the back/rear trigger screw to screw in and hold etc.

Dead Springer - you stated you have both the Sentry 702 and 705 . . . which do you feel is a better shooter?

Anyone else have both ? what are your thoughts on both guns ?

what are the differences between 705 and 702 ?
what advantages does one have over the other ?

i was about to order the 705 from Flying Dragon, but with the lower price on the 702, i'm reconsidering.

i started out to purchase the XS-28, then seriously considered the XS-46 instead, then decided the XS-60 is what i needed.
after reading more and more about the Sentry, i decided it would be best for me to get the Sentry 705 . . . until i read more about the Sentry 702 and heard the price has been lowered. now i'm not certain which to get. the $70 price difference between the two is not an issue, and i will have Mr Melick tune whichever i decide to purchase.

i tend to lean a little toward the longer 705 . . . or is the difference in length insignificant ?

Thanks for the reply.  I did not remove the power wheel.  This is a real mystery to me because when I took the rear trigger screw out, it seemed to be fully engaged by at least a few turns of the screw.

They are very similar in use.  The 705 has the side lever and that is much nicer than the 702 bolt IMO.  For some reason the bolt action calls attention to the plastic receiver more than the side lever.  The 705 also has the larger air volume and longer barrel, so if power is your objective it will give you more.  The 702 is smaller and lighter, I'm happy with it in .177.  They both use air much more efficiently at higher pressures, at lower pressures there seems to be a lot of hammer bounce, they get really loud and use air noticeably less efficiently.  For example at the high pressure end of the power curve (24 shots with 35 fps spread) the pressure drops approx. 100 psi per magazine, but on the low pressure end of the power curve, the pressure drops approx 200 psi per magazine.  I wish this was not the case because I'm interested in lower power and longer strings, but the guns seem to be oriented toward high power.  I'm thinking of getting regulators for them because of this.

 What part of your 702's receiver is plastic?... I am pretty sure mine is all metal.

You're right, please forgive me.  I know that already because some of the finish has scratched off and it's obviously metal.  Late night, tired and distracted...   Point is there is a weird feeling to the operation of the bolt action compared to the side lever.

Chuck I'd pick the 705-9 myself, it's heavier but makes up for the weight with a longer barrel, LDC and a side lever.  I think you get your moneys worth in the difference in price for sure.  The 702 is really nice for a long hunt because it's lighter with a shorter (carbine length) barrel and much more maneuverable in the thick brush.  Either one can be modified for much more power if so desired but I do recommend going through the gun if it doesn't have Mike's full tune with it.

I inquired early on when the 705 came out if a side lever could be swapped over on my 702.
 I do love a side lever gun.

to the end of the bolt probe nose, when the bolt is all the way to the back.

The only ways to have more (deeper) pellet insertion into the chamber would be turn a new bolt, or
cut off the OEM probe and drill a hole for a SS pin adding about .050-.075" to the OEM length,
which might be the best option, as this will reduce the area of the probe when firing a shot,
.090" SS pin to a .115" dia of the bolt nose.

Hey all,
Does anyone have an idea about getting a better ldc for the 705-9 models? I read a few posts about getting a whole new shroud, and all that. Seems like a good idea but I'm trying to save some $ and do it myself. Unfortunately I don't have any real machining capabilities other than asking a local shop to do the work.

Would modifying the stock shroud and threading the barrel be a good option? 

How about modifying  the stock ldc, like cutting the end cap off and adding an extended baffle filled tube?

You can get a moderator from Mike at TKO22, section 4 and then enter your model.  He's familiar with the Sentry and already knows that they have a 14mm barrel.

To get the factory moderator off, you have to take the barrel off, take out the moderators grub screw then take a small piece of wood and drill a hole slightly larger in diameter than the barrel.  Thread the barrel through the block and then use it to knock off the moderator.  This is what Mike Melick told me to do and it worked like a charm.

I cut off the end of the factory moderator that fits into the barrel sleeve and used it as a spacer and then pressed the TKO up to it for a finished look.  Works great!  At high pressure the sound is just a light click.  At lower pressures there is still a bit of noise because of hammer bounce, but still pretty quiet.

I just realized I never posted a pic of my 705 HC and this thread was the one that inspired the build, it was a prototype before the side lever came along. It's a a left handed .224 that'll do 100 FPE. It's currently detuned for 20 shots @ 65 fpe. TJ's 1:14 twist 24inch barrel. It is my most accurate air rifle and will give my savage .223 a run for it's money at under a hundred yards

How much did you bore out the breech xfer port as well as the xfer tube?

It was ported at .20 all the way to through. Be careful when drilling out the valve exhaust or you will breach into the seat. It is a very thin margin, if I remember correctly I had to deepen the throat slightly and drill the exhaust out at a slight angle
