i have the guy next door (mayor of the city of Burt, IA) and he has firewood stacked on his LP tanks (two 500 gl.) I don't burn wood, and don't run a bar like he does but this doesn't seem real safe to me...what do you think, my I being an old maid or should I say something?

Does he heat with propane?  If so, I will bet the propane company won't refill his tanks.  Kind of hard to blow the whistle on the mayor, especially if you live in a small town.  How much wood does he have stacked on the tanks?  Is it in a rack or some sort or just stacked right on top of them?  I would also worry about termites if I were him.  You shouldn't stack wood right next to the house.

Wow, just Googled Burt.  Population 489 (2009).  Is that where BestAirGuns hangs out?  If so, you're not listed on the "city's" website, LOL.  They do look like they have a nice funeral home.  Might be convenient if those tanks leak.

the woods just stacked up against the tanks, he heats the bar with it so minimal use of the LP....

I think I would say somthing just for the fact you said it's a Bar? One- just not real safe for the patron's, Two- Well we all know what Drunk's are like an one  might think it would make a fun looking bon-fire, Three- He is the Mayor an I'm sure even a small town has fire law's that are his duty to enforce. But I also know how small town's are an their way's SO really only you can decide if he will listen or create problem's for you?

If it were me Mike,

I'd just go over an talk to him, and let him know that his old wood pile on the propane tanks is scaring the heck out of you !

And then, depending on his reply, I would tell him that I have plenty of fire insurance, but if anything went wrong, that your insurance company would probably be looking for someone to cut there losses from, and with your photos of his fire hazard, it will probably be YOU !

I always start nice ! and then see where it leads !

I wish I lived closer, I would talk to him for you :-)

In the past,  I have had to go to small towns to set up stores.   I have dealt with the mayors and the chiefs of police in these small towns.   Very difficult people to deal with.    They are power hungry.  They enjoy being big fish in thier small ponds.   Had a break-in problem at one location and I foolishly complained to the police chief.     I was threatened with arrest.  In one small town,  while in my car I was struck by another car from behind.  It was the towns only Drs. daughter.   I was taken to the jail and arrested.  These yahoos knew me but put me behind bars anyway.  Daughter was never charged.  This was in the South.

I would rather go to a prison colony than have to ever return to a small town. For any reason.

So, in your dealings with the mayor, choose your words carefully.
