It's my understanding that anything under 2" diameter, does not require testing.

DOT does not require smaller diameter pressure vessels to be hydro tested. However, international standards are that pressure vessels over 10 years of age (IIRC) are not allowed to be used in competition, regardless of diameter or pressure level, etc.

Under 2" diameter and 2' long do not require hydro testing.... There may be "rules" for certain competitions that require replacement after 10 years, I have no idea....

For the sake of conversation, could say an Air Arms removable air cylinder that is under 2" and 2' be tested for peace of mind even though it isn't required?
Would the testing facility have the adapters or would we have to provide a foster or common adapter?
Thanks,

Doubt hyrdo testers have the fittings for airguns (would be a lot of fill probes if they wanted to cover all the makes)...don't know of anyone that really does hydro-test. Either they just replace it or they just keep on running the tube.
That 10-year idea bothers me. It assumes a detachable air tube. If there was real merit to the idea, then ALL air tubes (detachable or not) would be at risk after 10 years of use. Which means all the airguns with NON DETACHABLE tubes would be useless/outlawed.
Which means some of the classic older PCP's with one piece lowers should be "junked" (as I doubt you'd find full length lowers for many of the 2007 or later rifles).
It DOES SEEM that the more modern rifles uses a thinner thickness (to keep weight down) than some of the older PCP's (that often seem pretty thick-walled), but metal thickness is a uselss comparsion unless the type/treatment of the metal is the same....it very likely isn't.
So the 2X2 rule is observed....they don't HAVE to be hydro tested, but sometimes I wonder if they SHOULD be.
Stuff I cannot answer:
1. How much stress is there in a typical refill (lets say 3K to 2K back to 3K)....or in a total refill (0 to 3K).
2. Will this cycle of refill eventually work-harden the metal? (and I suspect some metals are worse about that than steel).
(Of the things that can lead to failure, work hardening is the one that won't give you a clue like expansion/swelling. Just gets harder and harder until it fractures.)
So...I HOPE that some set age isn't a real reasonable standard, ot a lot of old classic rifles would have to become decorators.

It really is something to think about with older pcp guns.
I guess stocking up on replacement air tubes, if available, wouldn't be a bad idea to keep a gun in service versus retiring it for safety concerns.
I don't know what a stock marauder tube costs. There are also aftermarket tubes for them now.
I recently bought an aluminum Altaros tube and front fill with gauge for my AA T200. It has a date lasered into it as does the original steel tube.

I do know that Germany does. Problem is, hydro causes far more stress than normal filling. Alway worried me that a tube that was safe before hydro, may very well be damaged by the hydroi it's self. Causing hidden damage.
Only way of really knowing would be Hydro followed by magnaflux testing. Without the magnaflux test, hydro is almost useless, and may very well be more dangerous down the road.
