My uncle owns a good deal of land behind my house and that is where I ride my dirtbike.  The trails open up to 2 large fields out in the middle of the woods.  He and I are the only ones that ever go back there (him on his four-wheeler) so there is no problem shooting.  I wanted something small, light enough and rugged enough to put in a pack so I can ride down there and shoot on the weekends.  From where I am standing taking the picture, to the far edge of the field I estimate to be around 175 yards.  Regardless, there is plenty of room to have fun.  I'll have to bring my rangefinder the next time I'm back there and measure it.  I hope to get the Matador all set up this fall and try it out on some tin cans at real long range.   

I was thinking about asking my uncle if he would mind if I dragged a homemade shooting bench out there.  I can whip one up real quick that will do the trick.  Doesn't need to be anything fancy.  For now I'll just shoot prone (which I've never tried before).

prone = actual field conditions = more diverse shooting opportunities = having to time that shot / breath a little better...but that's just me. If given the opportunity, I'd prefer shooting off a table/bench too - or atleast sticks/tripod/backpack.

Regardless that's a beautiful spot and good range test yourself and equipment.

Yes a Honda CRF230F, hands down the BEST (4 stroke) trail bike ever built!  I've done plenty of mods to get the power up so it is certainly capable of doing everything I need it to.

Not yet, I have her set wide open right now so no need for one.     I have however sent the specs to Huub to see if he can fashion me one in the near future.

In my youth, shooting prone while varmint hunting was the order of the day. North Ala. had a LOT of varmint opportunities. (And the ground was lush and soft. LOL)!!!

Now in Texas for the last 40+ years, Prone is not such a good idea here. We grow two things here. Rocks and Scorpions. And Both are every where. Even in what passes as the woods. You "Never want to end up on the ground. And if you did, Fire Ants will find you in seconds. No fun at all!!!

We are very lucky in Maine, no poisonous critters at all.  Really nothing at all to worry about, probably a ticked off moose would be my biggest worry out in the woods lol.  I would not want to deal with scorpions every time I went outside!

Bad as usual.  It seems like they get worse every year.  I do a lot of backpacking and always treat my hiking clothes and gear with permethrin so they don't bother me.
