So.....what did you shoot today?

I just shot a couple magazines of .25 50 grain Bob's boat tails out of a gk1.  Today I set the power to shoot them at a bit under 50 fpe.  Only chronographed three shots they were:

658 fps
659 fps
659 fps


These are more than accurate enough for plinking and they are the exact correct length and diameter for the magazines.  In fact they have shot straight out of every gun I have shot them out of.  I am very grateful to NOE and Bob - I bought two of these molds (50 and 60 gr) years ago and they have been just perfect.  I just ordered one of the 40 grain molds as I see that they are in stock!

Today was little red wagon of toys at LGR after work day!
Usual suspects
AEA .303 Challenger ended with a bull sized raged hole with the NSA 61.5x.303 at 24 yards from a 3050psi fill....the first shot is always 1/2" wide right then 8 touching.  Really wishing I could cock more spring and fill to 3750+ but I'm happy with the group and more than enough fpe for hunting.  AM 30-62A should arrive by Independence.

PP800r still shooting high at 10 yards but on the bull at 7.  Shooting quarter to nickle size groups with the Romeo5.  Looking at a proper dovetail to pic riser...This gun likes my "hand sorted" 217RF20s so I see a long future of plinking and recycling lead :-)

JSB 18s best group Nickle sized ragged hole 12 rounds at 24yards
Apollo 18's just a hair larger ragged hole than the JSBs.... definite value conscious option.

CPHP about even with the Apollo 18s...I might chrono these to see if it's worth tweaking the Notos to push them fast enough to deform and still group this well......

Fun couple days with the NoDoze. Looking through the arsenal to pick my next shooter. I don't think the Avenger has seen much, if any, of the newer North Range. I don't like pushing my GX GS3 past 3625 so I'll be filling with the YH. It also does well with my cast pellets so that's a plus.

Mine likes the RWS R 10 Match 7.0gr wad cutters for targeting, and the H&N Excite Econ II 7.4 gr for plinking.
But I rarely plink with this gun.
Plinking with the 853 would be like taking a NHRA rail dragster to the local street drag races.

Mine likes the RWS R 10 Match 7.0gr wad cutters for targeting, and the H&N Excite Econ II 7.4 gr for plinking.
But I rarely plink with this gun.
Plinking with the 853 would be like taking a NHRA rail dragster to the local street drag races.

I only find pellets at Walmart, or  sometimes Tractor Supply.
Occasionally leftovers at a yard sale.
 Wad cutters are the hardest to come across.
  I don't buy them online.   High shipping cost, and then sometimes damaged pellets.

Yup Yup Yup... the AV Avenger shoots my cast 250-27-RF-CC3 Hunter pellets like they were designed for it. This is a good thing because, aside from the Hatsan 1KV break barrel it's the only .25 gun I own. I'm considering selling the 1KV becaue it does not shoot the cast pellets well.. it likes lighter domed pellets like Benji and Strike. I don't want to pay the prices for those pellets for one break barrel gun.

I was moving a few guns around and decided to shoot the FWB 601.    I went out on the deck and shot at a tin can I have nailed to a stump at 50 yards.  The sun was in the perfect spot behind me so I could watch the pellets arc onto the target.   I was shooting from a seated position so it was way too easy hitting the can.   Also shot at some weeds, twigs and seed heads.   I don't plink with the FWB but the mood just hit me today.  My back yard targets are pretty much all for offhand shooting with pistols so they aren't much of a challenge for the FWB.   Installing some rifle targets for deck plinking might become a little project.  I have a propane tank at 100 yards but pellets fired from my low powered AGs don't make enough noise when they hit the tank for this deaf old guy to hear.

I went primitive on a nuisance gator today.  The little guy (4') has been getting too comfortable hanging around the boat docks and the swimming area.  This morning I caught him sunbathing on the bank in the swimming area.  Out came the Wrist Rocket and my bag of hickory nuts.  I unleashed a barrage of rock hard nuts from ten feet and sent him scrambling into the water.  I chased him past the Bouy line with a hail of nuts.  I even scored an occasional hit!  I last saw him swimming down river well out of sling shot range.  If he comes back tomorrow he'll get more of the same but if he doesn't learn he's gonna get permanently gone.

Notos adjustment day The CPHPs  started at 740fps very little variation with Hammer spring adjustment except all the way in takes me down to a 18 shot fill.  Adjusted the regulator 1/8 turn out got to 765fps around 18.5fpe....tried the 217RF19.4s got a ragged hole at 15 yards and a solid 20.03fpe, ES about 4.  Left the hammer spring at 2.5 turns out just as I had it and shot a 24 shot string at 703fps and 19.75fe and stacking the Apollo 18s at 15 yards...yes a ES of 0 zero nada.  Looks like the Notos will have a steady diet of these Apollo 18s and I will do the 4 for 3 to get JSB18 and JTS 18 for hunting season.  The JSBs stack at 24 yards.  Sighted in for 24 yards with the JSB 18s put the 19.4 hunters dead on at 15yards so they should be more than adequate for backyard practice.
Still no joy with the toothpaste beagled NOE68s in the .303 Challenger....went overboard with the corded drill and valve grind paste so one cavity is now a .305x.309 oval.  The other Cavity is now dropping .3015x.302 at 63 to 63.8gr so I'll see how those group soon.  I'll either end up with the Lee Hand Press and NOE sizer dies or keep my one cavity .302 mold for hollow points if they group

It's been an embarrassingly long time since this rifle was completed until now.  I've test fired it of course, but never got around to mounting a scope and sighting it in.  I finally put my foot down and got an initial sight-in at 25 yards (lasered).  I am by no means a spring piston shooter, nor is this the FINAL sight in.  It was just a really nice day out (at that point of the day- it rained later), and I had the time.  Shooting-wise, it's not my best work.  But considering where I started (scope adjustment was a total of 201 clicks up and 134 clicks to the right) to what's pictured, I'm happy with it.  In the coming days I'm going to refine that zero, and then get to work plinking and eliminating pest birds.  I won't really put a dent in the local Starling population, but I'll FEEL like I'm doing something.  LOL

I received my GARMIN XERO C1 Chronograph the other day and checked the speeds of the springers, CO2, SSP and the one PCP.
Today I checked the C9a with 4 pumps, 6 pumps and 8 pumps.
10 shots at each level.
180 pumps in all, err, a few more because the chrono wasn’t quite ready😓.
Significant power increase with additional pumps..
