And discovered I was doing it all wrong after using the mirror method of zeroing.
Apparently, with the “Zero Locking” turrets you need to have the locking nut all the way loose when you set them to zero, after making the adjustment, for the caps to seat properly on the turrets. Here is what I do NOW after having sloppy MOA dials that were wobbly.
- With scope off the rifle.
- Set scope to ∞ on AO.
- Set zoom to lowest #.
- Place front of bell onto mirror with a bright overhead light source.
- Loosen turret nut
- Look through scope and notice a set of reticles (or not, then you’re done). Rotate elevation and windage to align both as one.
- Tighten turret nuts.
- Loosen top turret screws
- Loosen turret nuts all the way.
- Pop up and set turrets to zero.
- Snug turret screws.
- Tighten turret nuts.
- Check your adjustment on mirror.
- Repeat if necessary.
I had to do it a couple of times for it to lock in, not sure why…
The key discovery was having the turret nuts TOTALY LOOSE when setting the caps to zero THEN snug up the turret screw followed by the nut.
This worked for me and the scope is solid.
Is this unique to UTG or are other scopes needing the same quirky adjustment process?, or, is it just my scope?
I sent one UTG back after zeroing it thinking it was poor QC and flimsy turrets. My bad.
