I agree with the mention of the crosman 1400 since it seems like an all around wonderful multi-pump. Also it's steel rather than brass which can be considered a plus although depends on the person perhaps. The only annoying thing about the 1400 is that the valves are similar size to the pistol 13xx valves , I wish they made them with bigger valves.

If that's what you are after, higher fps. The trigger will get much harder to squeeze however.

I wouldn't say they were "chosen" as in "written in stone". A poll could be taken on any given day with different results.
I have an Umarex APX NPG that is a good accurate shooter...Too. Very little ever gets mentioned about this rifle. My grandson Gabriel shoots this one, when he comes over. He is 8 years old and this one is a good fit for him. He can pump this one, at least up to 4 pumps.Best Wishes - Tom
Beauty and ugliness are in the eyes of the beholder. In my opinion, the APX NPG looks great. So does the Daisy 880. But, if an airgun is a tack driver, I'd shoot it, even it was ugly and pink!
Ya'll do yourselves a favor and get your hands on a good working vintage Crosman 101 pumper. Average cost will be around $100.
