I followed this string a very long time before opting for the Carette compressor from airtanksforsale and their alpha filter. I like that it is completely self contained..no need for external cooling tank. I am more than happy with my set up. I believe the cost associated with going this route over the less expensive unit will pay off in the long run. There are several guns that I didnt buy while saving for this and I appreciate what I do have more. Overall well worth it

I think you'll love it Jim. Everything I've seen definitely looks top shelf for a Chinese compressor, if you're willing to part with that much cash for a Chinese compressor.

I'm hoping by the time my Yong Heng dies the Carette's drop in price a little (or someone tears apart the mrodair one to see if it's the same as the one Joe is selling).

I considered the Carette, actually I'm still considering one. I'm waiting another year or two before I commit.

With the Yong Heng, the cost is low enough to make it disposable if it totally self destructs. So far, its working fine and I've been able to get parts that SHOULD keep it running for a longtime.

The Carette is no doubt the better compressor. Still, at $1400+ its not disposable in my book! What happens if you need a part? does Joe stock any? I have only found Joe and Huma selling the "real" Carette compressor. Some other sellers have compressors that look like carette's, these are reported as "knock offs" and not as good. Heck, I can't even find the Kalite/Carette manufacture website.....

 it takes me longer to fill water cooling bucket than it takes to fill the Mrod from 1700psi with the yong heng...I now need to hook cooling system up to a water supply I can turn on and off instead of a pump in the bottom of a bucket of water.

I use one of these.


I keep it full of water w/water wetter added. I store it on the door of my beer fridge. I'm doing smaller tank fills, so, with the smaller volume of water, I can run longer since its cold. Pull it out, screw off the big cap, drop in the pump, clip the return line to the lip and turn on the pump. Much simpler than filling a bucket each time and allows me to reuse the water and wetter.

I did plug off the spigot since its of no use to me and just a risk for spills...

If I had a water tap and drain that was not in a bathroom or my kitchen, I'd do once thru cooling as well

I'm betting the carette mrod air omega Venturi compressors are coming from the same factory just rebranded. My diabolo air dry system is a good example. Mine is red with nice lettering for $179 not including shipping. AliExpress has the same one gold color for $79 shipped. Take a look at the Diana stormrider same as mrodair varmint just rebranded. Are these guns knock offs? I doubt it. Same as the compressors doubt they are knock offs. Just rebranded color difference is all😎

You may very well be right. However, I do know that in cases like this, where different names are stuck on the side, QC and quality of parts can be different. Not saying they are, I just don't want to be the guy that spends $1250 only to find out later, that had I spent $1400, I would have got a better product

I won't be buying one until they are on the market for at least another year. Even then, If I don't see a demand along with a parts supply, I won't be buying. I'm not throwing that kind of cash at something that may be obsolete or parts can't be found for in a few years....

technology has evolved and fast becoming commoditized
the good thing is the Chinese make changes fairly fast.

the current crop of these compressors all carry the same basic 2stage piston design
just like the generic 3stage hand pumps which can now be had for $50

shoebox etc are gonna be considered stoneage soon.

I was gonna build a motorized hand pump but may not make sense anymore with the price of these compressors.

It actually does make sense.... With the price of the hand pumps a guy could make a dual motorized hand pumper that would be quite efficient. These hand pumps are self contained water cooled (in some cases) and a steady slow stroke would work great. And the fun factor is just an added.

Man, 8 days (including weekends) to the midwest from this seller.

Fedex dropped it on it's head and bent the tube coming out the top slightly (not kinked off shut, but I'll need to replace it eventually). None the less, didn't seem to hurt the performance at all. Filled my scuba from 2k to 3k in 18 minutes and never got over 53c on the temp gauge (I did put 3 cups of ice in the 5 gallon bucket). Bled moisture regularly and had zero moisture at the yoke on my scuba and very little on the input side of the hacked golden filter. My scuba is due for inspection in December so I'll be getting a visual done then, will be interesting to see how it looks (I will report back- good or bad).

Very, very impressed with this $300 compressor and $100 filter. Now to start hot rodding something....

Glad it worked out for you. Mine is still pumping along despite the overheating. Have spare parts to re- ring the piston but I'm to busy shooting 😎

Mine seems to get hotter than some others on hear, but I should probably use a bigger pail. I never use ice. Biggest bottle I fill is  22ci.
Does it really matter what way the water runs through the head? I wouldn't think so.

Mine got up to 34C (93.2) today when I topped off my PRod. The last time, it got up to 35C.
I think it didn't get as warm this time, because the basement is getting cooler. I guess winter is coming..

Since the compressor only runs about 15 or 20 seconds when topping off the PRod, I don't use the water pump.
I'll start using it again, when I start shooting the rifles again..
