Airguns you shot as a kid

Well, yesterday was a great day. Once again thinking to explore the dark, hidden antechambers of our walk-in closet. Among many wonderful things seeing the light of day once more, we finally found this. My 1966-70 variant one (yes, again!) Crosman 760 Powermaster! In one piece, all original that fired a couple times till the seals went south again. I didn't even open the old box I found it in till I got the camera out! Found it in the box for the AIR17 I'd bought for my son @ age 8 and gave him back last Christmas. Here are the pics I took;

I saved my paper route money to buy this for myself at age 13-16, so that's 1969 to 1972. Most likely 69 or 70. Spent many hours 10M target practicing, then hunting down by Black River. Always took it on vacations to WV and hunted small game with it. Fed my and Aunt Ethel's families with them, as they went out hunting as well. Wore that rifle out having good times with it. Now it's getting a partial restomod. I slightly modify them as I restor them for a bit more power/performance, so I guess you could say I'm a rifle restomodder?

When you' get to working on it, there are plenty here who can help ( even I low a thing or two 😉😉 )
Find yourself an old bike innertube to cut up and put a piece of rubber between the stock and receiver This will allow some tightening without damage and it'll keep it from shifting like they tend to want to do after every few shots.

I'll keep that lil trick in mind, thanks. Wanna get the M4177 rifled barrel and see if it really does fit as claimed? More power would be nice too.

That barrel only fits the more modern plastic receiver guns, the self cocking guns are completely different.
I may have to make a post about this and ask the mods to sticky it, because it's something that comes up all the time.

My first true "Air Gun" was a Crosman V-350 that my Grandfather gave to me, much to the surprise of my Mother (his daughter).  The gun didn't have a front sight on it, so I had to learn to shoot somewhat "instinctively", but lucky for me on a sunny day with shinny Crosman BB's (and to a lesser degree Daisy BB's) you could see them fly through the air in a "Arching Trajectory" and adjust as needed.  After that I graduated to a model 99 daisy (ancestor of the 499 quite accurate), and then later the big time 880 daisy.

My first Air gun was a crosman 760 power master that had bad seals, id have to pump it up really fast and shoot quik before the air all leaked out.
Made it problematic for hunting squirrels, but as luck would have it i stumbled upon a crosman 1377 that did not leak. Eventually the seals did go out on it but that was a few years later.
Have also had a AR-17 pellet/bb hybrid that i HATED ( never liked the tacti-cool guns ) as it looked to similar to a AR-15 and was  afraid some passer by would think it was a AR-15 and call the fuzz.
Best childhood pellet/bb gun i had was a Daisy 770 - i could hit a dime at 30 yrs with open sights with it. No squirrel /starling was safe
Was such a great gun i bought one for my son many many yrs later.

Yeah, to be honest, I think the only reason Crosman made smooth-bores was so they could shoot BB's too? Mo' money, mo' money. I wonder if their custom shop could come up with a custom rifled barrel for it?

My first air gun was El Gamo Cadet and right after that I got BSA meteor MK1...year was....somewhere around mid eighties, now my son shoots with that same gamo

The Cr AIR 17 and the Z77 were both a bit too real looking for the time and both were quickly pulled from production. I actually like the AIR 17. An easy single pump pneumatic that gets about 340 fps with 7.9 gr. pellets. All the AIR 17's I ever had were rifled. I don't have to worry about the fuzz. I shoot in my back yard. I'm close to 60 but if I were a 12 year old kid in the late 80's, I would have pretended it was an M-16.

Ha. The older guys would see my then 8 year old son hunting with his AIR17 and speed loaders full of Superpells and freak! " Did you se that!? That guy has his kid hunting with an M16!" ROFLMBO! Good stuff.  But they shoot BB's too, so I was sure it said smoothbore? Gotta look at that box again. Just called Crosman and the fella said they have NOTHING that'll fit those older versions. He gave me 2 numbers, one for  Accurate air guns, so I looked it up on the computer and msg'd them about it. Well see what comes up, since my searches aren't turning up a barrel. Just a whole rifle or two...

They've referred me to them as well,  their prices aren't very good.
I personally was looking for a couple seals and I was told they didn't really sell just parts and that you'd have to send the gun for them to work on.
If I were you I'd check baker airguns because they often seem to have parts for lots of different guns.

Just put a bore light down both of my current AIR 17's. They do look to be smooth bore. I always thought they had that modified rifling the Cr and D use in some of their dual ammo guns. Mea Culpa.
JG Airguns and Dennis Baker still sell parts, the last time I needed any. I think Ken at Daisy Gun Works sells Daisy parts as well.

my first was a 1389 backpacker. I ignored the part that said pellets only and got bbs stuck. I really liked the detachable stock. Hard to find now, one pops up from time to time but not when I have money.

Through a lot of research I have determined my very first was A Crosman 160. A hand me down from my now decieced uncle...
 Bill aka: avator  offered one up for sale and I just had to snag it up.

They sure do! Even my wife was surprised when I told her the boxed 760 Powermaster V1 she'd found in The Closet Of Lost Gold was my 1st pellet gun! The gun rack's standing to the right of my desk now, with the 5 air rifles on this side. Hard not to steal glimpses. I'm finding I like restomodding rifles as well. I know you'll really enjoy it...I sure am! The restomodded 160 is a nice rifle I'm currently using in a 6-week long friendly shooting match on the Facebook page, " Air Rifle & Pistol Target Shooter's Group". We're on week #2, and I need help getting set-up to shoot this weeks round. Three Gamo Targets, three shots each. Darn Optima scope fubared the adjusters in the middle of it, so I kept readjusting zero and soldiered on. Swapped in the Centerpoint 4x32 I took off son's Crosman Optimus before swapping in the old Winchester 3-9x32 I never used off the 1400cs onto his Optimus. So here's what the 160 Pellgun looks like now and last weeks targets;

We only had the old Benjamin 342 pump.  I'll have to take a picture of it, as Dad still has it.  It still gets used everytime I visit them, three times a year.  I think it could use a reseal as it is easy to pump to ten.  Wasn't so when I was a boy!

everything else as a boy were powder burners.  From a Ruger Single Six to a Remington 700BDL in .30-06.

Early-mid 60's BB gun.  Daisy made a Remington .22 replica.  It replicated a Remington pump .22, you cocked it by pulling/pushing the forestock.  Long BB-gun, long barrel.  What was the name of it?   My buddies went through 2 or 3 other BB guns and that one just kept shooting.  Pretty accurate too!
