Yes you should be able to shoot air rifles from the rests, but you 'd have to navigate around the case.  I have never tried it.  That's not really what it was made for.  Plano designed it this way so that you can clean a rifle.  I used it once for cleaning but I put cloth towels where the wood/stock comes in contact with the hard plastic to prevent scratches and pressure marks. 
But like Kris said you 'd really have to weigh the case down otherwise it won't be a solid rest.  If you bump it with your arm or shoulder you 'd probably knock the whole case and gun over being that the center of gravity is high with the rifle at the top, and not much weight at the bottom. 

IMO you 'd be shooting better using a couple of inexpensive Caldwell front & rear sand-filled shooting rests/bags.

Tater if you really want a good rest other than the bags, Caldwell makes a rest that can hold a rifle or a pistol. It's called the Matrix. They run about $50 to $60.  I have on and use it mostly for pistols. Very light weight and easy to carry around. As for the plano box it would be great for holding your gun without having to lay it down on the table when you go to check your targets.

The plano box is perfect for that. That's what I use when shooting in the field. I don't have to worry about it laying on the shooting table.

That's what I want to avoid, especially since a couple of us usually share a shooting table. Sorry if I worded it badly earlier.

The case arrived from Amazon today....very nice! Larger than I had envisioned. The only thing I would change is some sort of locking in place for the two rifle cradles. I suppose with the weight of the rifle on them they will stay in place, but it would be more secure if they "snapped" into some sort of socket.

Just in case your doing what I did. Make sure you are pushing the cradles all the way down.
I wasn't and my wife had to show me how    They will sorta snap in

I give him credit for being honest    I told you guys it's a good size box and that you 'd like it.
My 10yr old Plano box is the basically the same but kind of boring looking compared to this newer one which has had a minor external redesign for better looks.

Mine came a couple days ago.  I was on the fence on whether to get it or not.  But getting more organized won out in the end.   

Yup, the stands need to be coerced into place.  It is bigger than I though but I shouldn't have a problem filling it.  It would have been nice if you could close the lid with the rifle stands up and in place.  Also somehow store the rifle stands outside of the box?

You might be on to something Taso.  Plano should come up with a way to store them on the outside of the case.  The rifle stands take up a lot of room inside.  I don't even know where mine are.  I put them away a long time ago because I needed the space for other stuff.

I purchased 2 myself, needed something for the big bore guns. I have to agree with the others, it would be nice if plano did store the stands outside the storage case. I just make space for them for now.

I ordered my online and picked it up at the local Walmart yesterday. Only took 4 days to get here. It is larger than I expected and looks capable of putting much of my gear into.  I agree that getting the supports to snap into place took some pressure (especially the front one) and a little bit of filing on the inner vertical rails.  But otherwise a great, sturdy, good looking tote box!
