Betty Lou has a metal/metal 880 and I just bought another one from Jim Evans this morning. These are and will be our 30 - 35 yds beer can and paintball killers.

hey buldawg, how did you get around the front sight/ barrel mount, to use a 24" barrel on that 1400? I have the one I got from bill, that I plan on doing the bolt style breach, and a longer barrel on. I just can't figure a work around for the front end.

First, Nope on the wood 880. I wanted it but Betty Lou balked. I probably could have gotten it anyway but a man can only eat some many McDonalds hamburgers and bologna sandwiches.
As far as the barrel, I think he said he used a 2240 type barrel band.

To be able to use the 24 inch barrel I used an older circa 66 to 75 model  760 barrel band that is a metal band part# 760-008 but they are no longer available so you may find one on eBay as I did but I have not seen any in quite awhile and I check every day.  In its place I have found this aftermarket one http://www.ebay.com/itm/291992816487?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT. It will work perfect if you install it in the tube and mark where the pump arm pivot hole is and drill a new hole in the barrel band fork for the 1400 pin location. The 760 style band has the pivot hole closer to the band part so the new hole is about 3/8" closer to the end of the fork of the band but still plenty of metal left to support the pivot pin. Then just drill the front breech screw hole to match the 1400 tube location and away you go. The rear breech screw and TP port are in the same location as the 2240 breech so only the front breech hole needs to be drilled and countersunk to use the 1400 front breech screw.

No modification have to be done to the 1400 so it can be returned to factory condition any time its desired. If I had to modify my 1400 it would not have gotten the breech and barrel swap.
