I had to get the cable from the APP people, then it worked on my S6 edge and my RCA tablet.  had to use the micro USB on my tablet as the regular USB port would not work with the app and caldwell.

Chessy tripod is great only because it fits in the bag with the other stuff when going afield.  At the shop, I set it on a stool, it never needs adjusting :)

Done...
:)
The G2 on the way and says I'll have it by this Friday. Shipping the pro kit back today for refund.
Thanks all. Probably will not need the nice cable I ordered. LOL
Anybody using a Kindle Fire HD for display? Need to find an app that actually supports that platform. That would make an awesome display.

My GOODER tripod can just Velcro strap to the bottom of the system carry case.
:)

But I won't be going into the "field". Mine will stay assembled in my shop and occasionally moved outside to shoot.

Just looked at the G2 and still drooling :)  I'm going to buy one for my test cell.  I'd never use the g2 in the field, just too easy to shoot high and cry.

Several folks have solved the problem by fastening thick plastic covers over their display. I'm tempted to do it to mine just in case...

I have the G2.... VERY nice. handy. and what's more, I can set it up quickly and use it in my new basement/mancave/proving-grounds !

I have had a few error counts...I think I haven't learned how to set it up perfectly yet...but for 99% of the shots I've taken through it, it beats all the other units I've owned.
 (Sorry Chrony...but I'm selling you...)

Oh I use the Samsung G5.

and yes, the tripod is a bit flimsy, but for the price, I ain't complaining. and it does the job...I figure if I use my .264 Win Mag with it...I'll use my wife's super-spiffy camera tripod (and hope she doesn't notice :-) )

I bought a Caldwell from Midway when they were on sale also. (Guess I suffer from the same affliction to want to try things) I didn't have much problem connecting it to my smart phone or tablet (I am a computer guy) but I have noticed that sitting side by side with my Chrony F1, the Caldwell is much more sensitive to light changes and tends to consistently show 6-20 fps velocity swings compared to the F1, both with and without the shades. I thought the Caldwell might replace my venerable (which means somewhat shot up) F1, but not so sure that is going to happen...  :-\

If the tripod made it easy to put the chrony in position, I wouldn't mind so much that it's kinda cheap. But it's so floppy that it's a bit tedious to get it directly in line with your line of sight/fire. So fiddly.

I much prefer a tripod that's a bit more stable. Since I shot mine up  :-[ I'm tempted to buy another decent tripod from WallyWorld and make a bigger case for the whole thing...

Steve, this is what makes the issue even more frustrating for me. I'm a 40+ years experienced  electronics technician and a computer tech/network administrator by trade.

:)

I was an embedded systems guy in my past life.  It's nuts they use an analog microphone jack to communicate when there is usb on the unit.

The Bluetooth on the G2 should work better one would hope.

Tom,

I think the interface they choose has to do with licensing to use.  EDIT: What licensing they want to pay for, I meant.

I am in I.T. too and I can't stand it when something doesn't work like it's supposed too.  My biggest pet peeve is Backup Exec.  I think Veritas broke it on purpose.   ;)

HAHAHA, I go back to the 2400bps acoustic coupler modem days and worked for AT&T for 14 years as well so I am pretty familiar with the analog way of doing things, but it would have been so much easier if they had just used bluetooth or USB (but then again, maybe that is why they were on sale  :o) I have a Samsung S5 phone and a Galaxy Tab tablet and managed to get the out of the box cable working with both. Volume control setting did play a part along with some other tweeking.

When you have two chronys it is frustrating because you don't know which one to trust the most if they disagree by more than a couple percent. I have never had any reason to suspect my F1 and it tends to agree with what others are reporting for my gun and power levels so it will still be my go to. The features of the Caldwell are nice when they work properly so I will keep it considering I paid less than $50 with coupon I had.

Caldwell-

After not getting any of my 3 units
to work with my tablet, I read about
the USB cable and called them and
without to much trouble
They sent 3 cables and mini USB to USB
patch cable also.
NO LUCK!
Now with 9 total cables, (3 sets)
I'm hand writing my shots,
Then talking with my brother, we
remembered the -

"USB To Go"

Little cable that you can get to
let our tablets read thru its Mini usb
Now all is good and it still takes
about 20 shots to get a 10 shot string
but I'm using indoors with DIY lights.

I got you beat.  I go back to 300 baud modems before the 1200 & 2400 baud came out :)  I worked in the network dept. for IBM but we used a good amount of AT&T equipment as well  until we went to 56K and T1 MUX's by NET in the late 80's.  AT&T (Lucent) was still the telecom king in the 80's though, and well into the 90's.  I also remember installing a 300 baud modem card in my IBM XT in 1984 so I could connect to local Bulletin Boards (aka Forums today) :)  I then upgraded to a Hayes 1200 baud SmartModem card in '86-87 in my Compaq x286.  I paid $499 for that modem!  Regular price was $600.

Anyway I don't know what all the fuss is... :)  I got an error once with my Chrony Beta in 9 years, and that was the first day I set it up.  Once I installed the Chrony indoor lights I have not seen a single error since, or after 1,000-1,500 shots through it.
I have dropped my smart phone so many times, and have replaced them several times due to damage, so I feel the less I do with my phone, the better :)  It only takes me a minute or 2 to input the #'s in an Excel spreadsheet and save it on my hard drive for future reference.  I am old fashioned I guess for wanting to use the keyboard :)
