Rainstorm II .30 "Chronicles"

Both of my .30 cal mags are only 7 round mags.  Anybody else notice this?  I told PA on Monday that one page of their description said it was a 10 rd mag and on the spec page it was listed as a 8 rd mag in .30 cal, so I asked specifically what was the mag capacity, and they told me 8 rds in .30 cal.  They have since changed both pages to be 8 rds.

How many rds are your .30 cal mags?  At almost $60 each, I was really expecting 8.

The 8 rounds mags where the old style, the 7 rounds is the new one and I can tell you this version is better, one cool mag for sure,...betcha you can still buy the old ones at Pyramyd if you really want the 8 rounds.

OK than, we are getting somewhere 

The air tube inletting is done



I've never shown you how perfect a 1" PVC tube wrapped with sand paper fits the Evanix stocks



The air tube does not contact the stock,
the point of contacts are, this little shelf where the action sits



And this 2 steps where the square piece that houses the gauge sits





The action sit pretty high on the stock so I'll need to shim the trigger blade to bring it lower



Next step will be to fashion a section that goes from the trigger unit to the air gauge so I can bolt the stock to the action,

I'll be using the part that was supposed to be the barrel cover.









Last will be to figure out how to place a trigger blade on the stock, I bought this one and I have no clue How I'm gonna do it

FRP and some glass over the FRP then Mount the trigger guard to the FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) You will need to fill in the inside of the stock sort of a glass bedding thing  to set up the trigger guard any way and keep the action from moving inside the plastic stock right? Maybe a little bondo to fill in around the receiver or some expanding foam

Nope, of the 10 or so Rainstorms I had, never one stock broke.

Did some more work, going down to take pictures,......Surprise, surprise

Here we go,

1st of all, my tools 



Cut down the section of stock and did preliminary fitting



Now, after I did that I was trying to figure out how to fit the trigger guard, and just couldn't wrap my head around it, than I decided to see if I could do something with an Evanix trigger guard that is in a Project stock,.....( That one is a Speed stock that I got from Pyramyd for free since it was brocken to see if I could use it for a project. )



Surprise, surprise,...the guard fits perfectly, there's even a shelf inside the pistol grip where I can just screw it in ( will show )



The extra piece than fits right on, I'm thinking to take it a bit down to fit more flush, but for now I'm taking a break to think ( can't put material back after you take it off  )






All in all, great day, I'm not extremely confident I'll pull this one off

Now we're getting somewhere!  I'm waiting on the pics with the buttstock extended, I'm curious about how it will look.  I like the way that stock is made though.

That looks like an interesting project, can't wait to see it finished.
Have you considered welding the extra part to the stock, cutting some for filler and welding in permanently to the stock then sanding it nice and flat, some heatgun polishing and done.

Nice work Manny. How much weight do you think you shaved off from the original stock? Next time I see one on sale I might pick one up for one of my heavy weights ( hatsans)

I'll compare with the factory stock once I'm finished, but it feels significantly lighter.

I will epoxy it to the stock but I want to keep the original texture, than again who know what I'll end up doing
