Benjamin Bulldog Question ?

My GM just bought a Bulldog for general hunting of predators and hogs. He and I might take a trip to Texas for some fun coming up in a bit.

I have my 257 Condor, 25 Condor ---- but may get a Bulldog also. I have heard from folks that have them that they are a lot of fun to shoot without breaking the bank and without doing lots of mods ------- with the right pill you have plenty of smack for pig hunting for sure.

I would like to know from guys that have them how they feel about the gun. I know that an inch+ or so group at 50-60 yards is what to expect as the gun is made for hunting bigger game .... this is not a squirrel gun for sure.

Just want to get your feelings, his gun comes in on Thursday and I'm just as excited to see it as he is ;- )

the sole negative ive heard is they leak from the factory , slowly , but leak.. they may have fixed that in the last yr , i dont know.But all good reviews across the board

Will I own a Bulldog.  Probably my least accurate rifle.  The power is fine and it feels good to me and is compact.  It is very accurate at 50 yards for any hunting you may do.  If you want longer shots this is not my first choice.

My BBT .126 grain is the most accurate slug I have shot in my Bulldog and others have had less luck with theirs with the same round.  I have a gun that was released before any of the other shops got guns so things may have changed in production.  American Air Arms has my gun taken apart right now, we were looking to re-barrel with a twist rate that makes sense for the power/caliber but has been put on the back burner for now.  AAA not sure if the gun will be accurate even with the barrel change because of the way the barrel is supported inside the gun.  That gun has 14 twist from the factory which imo is way too fast.

There is a power adjust on the back you can turn up fyi.

I own one and love it. It is definitely not the most accurate air rifle but it sure hits hard.

I get about a 1 to 1.25" group at 50 and it opens up a bit more than i would like at 100 but i have killed about a dozen Coon, Fox, Rabbits and skunks. All from 30 to 90 yards.

There are  some more accurate rifles out there but none that I know of that have the power, the rotary mag and the low price that a Bulldog does.

I have not tried the Nielsen ammo but i have found that the Mr. Hollowpoint 140g has been the most accurate. That being said, I have a box of the new AeroMagnum 128g sitting on my bench that I have high hopes for. I will find out this weekend.

I would buy it again if I had it to do all over again.

Thanks guys for your info. My buddy is into the pig thing, so this may be perfect for his use. He has been talking about predator use too but like you guys have said it may not be accurate enough for thait at longer than 50-60 yards, I don't know.

I'm sure he will take it to the range and test it out. For him it is just about perfect - short, powerful and accurate enough for pig size stuff without spending a lot of money on something he will use maybe 2 to 3 times a year . If it has brain shot accuracy for pig at 60 yards I'm sure he will be very happy. For coyote at 50-60 I think with this gun he would just go for heart/lung shots, it has the energy for that for sure. Although my 257 has power for pig too, it would be a brain shot shooting.

I don't like the fact that it is loud from everything I have read, my 257 is "big backyard friendly" with the R&L shroud and I like that a lot ;-  )

I'll see it on Thursday for sure and I'm excited about seeing it ... it sure is one of the funkiest guns (read ugly) I have ever seen, but it may be comfortable. One of the guys I have talked too that I bought a Condor from has one and he told me the gun is really fun to shoot, he told me to get one that I would have a blast with it, others have said the same ... all have said this is not a 100 yard bench gun, just as you guys have ;-  )

The problem with me getting one is it is a very powerful gun and as it now stands I'm having trouble finding places close to where I live to shoot my Condors,  I can't use it in California to hunt game animals either as the law now reads in California and it is not really the perfect predator gun at 50-85ish yards

That is very quite... you baffle the inside with with something fast and dirty, Or was it a major rebuilding of the inside of the gun ?

Very nicely done, the barrel as it comes from the factory is about 4 inches from the end of the gun I assume ? Can the barrel be removed easily, or is that a total pain in the back side with washers, "O" rings and the like ?

No the barrel is a pretty easy removal.

There is a cap head Allen screw at the back of the shroud. Take that off and the entire shroud will slide forward and of the gun. Then there are 2 Allen set screws on top of the receiver. Loosen those and the barrel will come out.

The Bulldog is the easiest gun I have ever worked on.  It's easy peasy to upgrade the power about 100fpe or so.

I have been pondering getting one just to up the power and maybe re-barrel it.  I think if someone took the time, it could be put into a regular stock.

I think considering the price reduction it is a decent gun.  The only beef I have is it is not accurate enough for my likes but I like everything else about it.  I am hoping to relook at the gun in a few months and see what we can do with it.  There are higher priority tasks I have at the moment but I hope to at least make the gun decent out to 100 yards.

I'm hoping the EPP's are accurate in his gun for 60 yard coyote type stuff, they may be OK for smallish pig too, I don't know. I would think since they are a solid bullet they would penetrate more than the JSB's ?

I sent you an email too but I sent those EPP slugs out this morning and some BBT 126 grain for you to compare.  The BBT are heavier so will come out slower but of course have a much higher BC.  Curious how they do in your gun.  In my Bulldog the BBT did the best out of probably at least 50 different slugs I tried in it.  Others said they were not the best slugs in theirs so I would like to get comparison so I can make the best suggestions to people.  Mine is taken apart and so I have nothing to test with.

PS: I was just over his house and saw a JSB 357 cal pellet ........ that is one huge pellet ..... no problem taking a yote or small pig with that sucker at 50-75 yards for sure !!! WOW !

I told him about the bullets you are sending and he is ecstatic .... I will be at his house when he gets the gun .... I think I'm just as excited as he is  ;- )
