Webley .22 cal Tomahawk

Well, I  finally got a chance to spend a couple hours in the backyard range with the .22 cal Webley Tomahawk that I purchased  from AOA recently.  Mounted on the rifle was  the Hawke 2-7x32 AO scope that came with the rifle for 35 bucks. I did the initial sight in with brown box CPL's then set up targets at 30 yards to do pellet grouping tests.  I didn't set up my chrony, I figure I'll do that another day, today I just wanted to see how the rifle shot and what, if any, pellets it preferred. 

I tested a total of 15 different pellets, ranging from standard weight .22 cal pellets up to 18 and 21 grain pellets. 

Long story short......... the gun functioned very well, the cocking action was very smooth, the lock up was nice and tight, the firing cycle was very nice with no "twang" whatsoever and the trigger, which is still set at factory settings, was pretty decent.  I plan on adjusting the trigger to lighten it up a bit but I didn't have any trouble with it at it present setting. 

As for pellets.........  it didn't like the heavier pellets that I tried like the JSB Jumbos, Kodiaks, etc, but it did shoot a few of my pellets exceptionally well.... specifically Crosman Pointed pellets, RWS SHP's, Superdomes and CPHP's.  All of those pellets gave me dime sized groups but the Pointed pellets actually gave the tightest group, almost a ragged hole, so I did the final sight in with them.    The Crosman Pointed pellets were a real surprise to me because the only rifles I have that really like them are my cheap Chinese shooters (B-3's etc), but for some reason this Tomahawk just loves them.   

I really like this Tomahawk/Hawke scope combo, especially for the price they were selling them.  It's all sighted in and ready to hunt and I'm looking forward to getting in the woods with it .  Squirrel season opens up Sept. 1st in NY state so I may head up to my hunting cabin the first week of Sept so I can try and bag a nutter or two. 

I also purchased a .177 cal Tomahawk along with the .22  so if it doesn't rain tomorrow I'll see if I can do my pellet testing with that rifle and see how it shoots.

I got my .22 Tomahawk a couple of weeks ago-it's a fine looking rifle.  I got the same deal with the Hawke scope thru AOA as so many others did.  I'm having real troubles getting any grouping at all with my shots.  Admittedly, I've only used CPHP's.  However, I get very tight grouping with all my other rifles (.22 mod95 vortex, .22 striker 1000x vortex, .25 mod135 vortex) using the same pellets.  It's the first true springer I've shot in several decades; maybe that's the issue.  I didn't realize true springers were that much harder to control.  I'm going to carry on trying to get the hang of it, only shot a couple of hundred rounds so far.

With Springers, the "hold" is everything . . . There is a "learning / re-learning curve".

My .177 tomahawk has been fantastic so far.  It's had about 350-375 pellet through it and keeps getting better.  I chrony tested it yesterday with CPHPs, and averaged around 953 FPS. 

So far I've tried 18 types of pellets from H&N, JSB, and crossman.  Like several others have reported, my .177 loves CPHPs above all others.
