Funny, I was just thinking that, since I bought the LGU Varmint thinking it had a gas piston because that's what they claim. When PA only state Engineered in German it makes me think they may be covering themselves from returns if someone finds out different.

LMBO, that catalog still lists the LGU Varmint as a gas spring gun.

It's a spring gun that was listed in the catalog as a gas spring which most vendors copied into their descriptions. Was on of the deciding factors in me purchasing the LGU Varmint. I say that but, I would have bought it quicker if I had know it was a normal LGU as they were getting excellent reviews everywhere.

Time to add my two cents to this thread. My brother received his Parrus (.22) on Friday, and Saturday mounted a scope and sighted it in. He has a shoulder problem, so only ran about ten pellets thru it and got it pretty close. Like the Diana 34, this gun will need a compensating scope base to take up the barrel droop. He has it on order from PA, but in the meantime he shimmed the scope with lead shims to zero it.

I stopped by today to try it out, and fired three 3-shot groups at 12 yards. I wish I would have taken some pictures, because I couldn't believe the accuracy. The CPHP's don't like this gun, and it showed by going everywhere BUT in the same area. Then I tried H&N FTT's 14.66, and all three shots were inside a 3/8 dia circle, with two pellets in the same hole. AMAZING! Then I shot three Beeman Kodiak 21.14 pellets and replicated what the FTT's did, except they were transposed to the left looking like a mirror image, including two shots in the same hole.

With only about 25 shots thru this gun, it's a true tack driver. Once my brother gets the scope base later this week and dials in the scope, he will bring it to my house and we'll run it across the Chrony to see how various pellets work. I'll update when that happens.

Someone walked away with one yesterday at the New Philly shoot. I hope we hear back from them on what the gun does at longer ranges.

I read a review on P.A. site that the claim on pellets was these rifles need quality pellets for good accuracy! so I assume that means H&N/JSB's pellets, It would be interesting to know and get a true review from someone on this rifle,

Hummmm....for my .177 R9 neither the 4.52mm H&N FTT or 4.52mm JSB Exact were "quality" based on consistent accuracy due to the great variation of head sizes. LOL....I had two dryfires at a field target match shooting supposedly 4.52mm Exacts from the R9 and would have had three if I hadn't noticed the loose fitting pellet flipping from the leade when I went to re-latch the barrel. With both the FTT and Exacts some tins were "good" but most weren't and only gave good accuracy with the R9 if pre-sorted. After sorting by pellet measuring FTTs and Exact pellet heads.........

For my .177 R9 "quality" based on accuracy was the die lot marked and dated 7.9 grain Crosman Premier!
Here is a target shot "bucket and sticks" at 50 yards with the R9 when comparing a couple pellets brands. Notice the CPL group in the upper left corner......

Here are 15 out of 20 CPLs that went through a 3/4" killzone at 50 yards shot HFT style (sitting on a bucket resting the gun on cross sticks) from my .177 R9........

It does seem that sorting pellets by head size is frequently done and there is even a sorter sold made from a metal plate with precision holes like this........

While unsized CPLs are very accurate in both the R9 and HW95 the fit in the tighter HW95 leade was "sore finger tight" so my solution was to use CPLs which have relatively large heads (4.54ish-4.55ishmm) and "head size" while rounding the skirts with my home made pellet sizer at the same time. It takes me about 5 seconds to size a pellet and push it back out of the die fit finger pressure for about 720 pellets per hour while reading airgun forums and watching YouTube videos........

After sizing to 4.52mm

I found that the 4.52mm size works well in both the R9 and HW95...........

The point of all this is my belief that pellets should be selected by accuracy from the individual gun, not brand since one size doesn't fit all. My .177 HW95 has a considerably tighter leade than my .177 R9 and it actually shoots the supposedly 4.52mm JSB Exacts accurately. I believe that this is due to the fact that even the smaller Exact pellet heads get swaged to "leade size" when loading, therefore they're "pre-sized" when loading for a consistent fit to the bore. I haven't tested the H&N FTTs from the HW95 but I suspect that they would also be consistently accurate from the tight leade HW95. Perhaps it would be good for you to try different pellets to see what works best for you from your gun. I do have to mention however that from my guns only dome pellets gave adeaquate accuracy past 30 yards!

ED, very informative for sure, I have to agree if ur looking for match quality performance every time u you shoot that would be the approach I would also use, I have sorted ton's of pellets to get the best results from a given air rifle, but sorting pellets is a PITA, and most folks aren't going to go thur all that trouble, I would also agree that finding the right pellet for a given barrel is always a must for best accuracy, on the rifle review I read the individual said his rifle didn't like the Crosman pellets that's why thru the H&N or JSB pellets as a suggestion to a possible might want to try pellet right off the bat, but we all know each barrel is different, I have bought for example 3 new Walther air gun's in the past few months based off of what I have read on them and they have not been disappointing, my 2 LGU's Master .177 and my Varmint .22cal shooting the Crosman pellets from the tin from Wally world with pretty much 1 hole accuracy @23yds and sub dime size @30yds, based off of those results I purchased an LGV Master Pro .177cal in hopes it would also shoot the Crosman pellets as good as the other 2 Walther's! but this is not the case with the LGV, it dose not like the Crosman's but it will shoot 1 hole groups with the RWS Super Domes, it shoots them so well I don't need to sort them or even look for another pellet, I hope all of this type of info help folks here make informative decisions, just my thought's,

My brother came by today and we ran a few pellets across the Chrony to see how the Parrus .22 was doing right out of the box. These were all 5-shot averages, and are listed by pellet weight.

Crosman Premier 14.3 gr. .... 931 FPS...27.5 FPE
RWS Superdome 14.5 gr ...... 886 FPS ...25.3 FPE
H&N FTT 14.66 gr ................ 859 FPS ...24.0 FPE
JSB Jumbo 15.89 gr ............. 840 FPS ...24.9 FPE
Ruger Superpoint 16.8 gr ...... 813 FPS ...24.7 FPE
Beeman Kodiak 21.14 gr ....... 663 FPS ...20.6 FPE

I shot some more at targets to see how the accuracy was, but I was worn down by cocking this magnum over 50 times, and couldn't focus as well on the accuracy. I will say that most of those shots were very close, with the flyers showing up with the Crosman and Ruger pellets. This gun did not do well with those two, but the rest fell within 1", and were very consistent. I was shooting to the 1" red circle so everything flew across the middle of the Chrony. The taped holes were from a layover target that I removed.

My friend has the Parrus Synthetic .22....right out of the box it shoot.

Crosman Premier 14.3 gr....................880 FPS....24.60 FPE After 300 rounds its now shoot 860 FPS.
Beeman Kodiak 21.14 gr 5.53mm....... 655 FPS ...20.14 FPE

Its not pellet picky or hold sensitive. Best - H&N FT 14.66g 5.54 and CHP 14.3g. Close 2nd Beeman Kodiak 21.14 gr 5.53mm
Very accurate at 40ft smaller then dime size group on a rest bench. Not bad for magnum air rifle.
Smooth fire cycle and the trigger feels better then I thought.

I need to be real careful with this gun. I'm starting to lust after it, especially since I just for a Diana 34 that shoots real sweet. The saving grace is that I already have a Hatsan 125TH that is even stronger than the Parrus. But that's never stopped me before from making an emotional purchase...LOL!

New review from airgunweb just came up on youtube. He liked the build quality, and said it had a strong lockup which is critical as we all know. Not a word about the trigger, which is surprising from Rick. I'm guessing the pull was decent, or he would have mentioned it. It did seem to have a bit high of an ES for a broken in German gun, at least to me. Hold sensitive as well, but that's not really a surprise.

Rick mention that the Parrus has a kick or bit of recoil. I didn't notice that the one I shoot but what I did notice is its more difficult to cock. It seen that its more smoother and easier to cock now after 500 rounds.

After 5000 pellets the spring broke so I replace OEM spring 825130-42 with a Vortek 825135-39. Reduce the vibration and the recoil is less harsh then before. The cocking feels about the same. Before the gun was producing 22-23FPE with CPHP 14.3g.

H&N Baracuda Match 21.14 gr 5.53mm....... 750 FPS ...26.4 FPE
JSB Exact Jumbo Heavy 18.13 gr............... 830 FPS ...27.7 FPE
