We all know a smoother shooting springer makes for smaller groups but what is the magic number? We all seem to go by the 12 FPE rating as the benchmark for accuracy but is that really the magic number? Many of us with enough property desire to hit targets at multiple ranges with enough power to take down small pest at the longer ranges. The dark side provides a bridge between the simplicity of a springer and the noise of a .22LR but at a cost far exceeding a good powder burner.
I see Walther has now produced the Parrus. German engineered and some ads say made in Germany. Some ads claim a Lother Wather barrel, some don't. Anyone willing to wager it's made of Chinese parts?

I've decided I need a German sproinger in .22 and this Parrus just came up on the radar. Can't find much user info on it, if any. I'm either going RWS34 or a Parrus, I like the track record of the RWS-- and it uses a ball bearing lockup vs. the wedge design. The Terrus gets good reviews, I just want a bit more power than that.

I've tried all sorts of tunes in my springers. High, medium and low power with various tune kits.

The optimal sweet spot for accuracy has been about 12fpe. So at least in my case the folklore matches well with experience. And of course accuracy beats power and day. For my hunting distances, 12fpe is plenty and the game is 100% dead with good shot placement.

Given the solid pedigree on the RWS 34, it would take some remarkable reviews to pass it over for another similarity priced springer.

If you choose to go the PCP route, the Discovery or the new Maximus offer a lot of performance for the money.

I would not be so worried about Chinese parts being in it. (Edited Now I am) The stock maybe. If they used a trigger like the LGV all would be good. If it has a trigger like my Terrus then I would pass. Have not had my Terrus apart to see if I could do something to improve it nor heard of anyone making it better.
You can get decent accuracy in magnum springers. Seems like my Hatsan 125 sniper would get 1 inch groups at 50 yards once I got the hold down. Need to scope it and see how it's doing now. The Trail NP2 I had was shooting around 820 FPS and getting nickle groups at 20 yards. It's just easier to shoot the lower powered springers in most cases.

This is just my opinion, I too have looked at this rifle a few times, that said I think this rifle is going to be very comparable to a Diana 350mag as far as power, or any of the 48's 460's class of air guns, and as mentioned the trigger is questionable to is adjustability, as far as it origin of build that would be another question! But here again a $300 dollar air rifle with a LW barrel on it from the factory! MMMM! not sayin it doesn't have 1 but buy an LW barrel blank and their about $100+ dollars! I think the trigger could be made half way decent with a few spring mods? just basing this from the work I've done and seen on my LGU's, even tho these are 2 different trigger units, The LGU triggers have a spring in it from the factory that is designed so u cannot over adjust it to make the trigger adjustments unsafe in any way! also the Parrus trigger is first stage adjustable only like the Diana T05 unit but the T05 has prove in to be very tune able in the right hands, the over all length of the rifle suggests to me it has a long compression tube so it will have a long piston stroke like the 350mag, but that's where the power comes from! anyway if u have ever had or shot a 350mag then u know their is a long learning curve to learn to shoot a rifle like this well! just my thoughts on the Parrus!

IMHO, a lot depends on the springer itself and the shooter, however for me a 12.5ish tune level (7.69 grain CP:L @ 850fps) works well with my .177 R9 and HW95 and is a good compromise between moderate hold sensitivity and pellet trajectory. This doesn't mean that for an individual shooter of the .177 R9 the power level can't be higher with good accuracy. Here are a couple 50 yard 3 shot groups my brother shot at one sitting with his .177 R9 tuned to shoot 10.5 grain pellets at about 14.5 fpe..........

Years ago I shot these two 50 yard 5 shot groups with my .177 R9 tuned to shoot H&N FTTs at almost 15fpe when testing the accuracy of a home chopped and choked R1 barrel on the R9.........

By the way, all MY groups are shot "from bucket and sticks", not benched since my springers don't "like" benching.

For the last few years however I've been tuning my R9 & HW95 between 12.5 fpe and 13.5 fpe and I shot the CPL group in the upper left hand corner of this target with CPLs at 850fps when testing the accuracy of a couple "new to me" pellets...........

I owned a fixed barrel .177 HW77k for a couple decades and found it was easier to shoot accurately than my R9 due to the extra couple pounds of weight and even took 4th place at the 2010 National Field target match shooting hunter class. That year the piston and PCP hunter class was combined and out of 17 hunter class shooters all but 5 were shooting PCPs. LOL...I was very pleased with the 4th place plaque I received that year.......

The HW77k I used was tuned to shoot at 15ish fpe (7.9 grain CPL at 930fps) and was still pretty accurate. I've since sold the HW77k but have a .177 R9 and .177 HW95 simply because the break barrels are less cumbersome to cock & load and are lighter to lug around. LOL......I used my break barrels most of the time anyway, even for field target matches.

Anywhoo, I do believe that the weight of the rig relative to the fpe has a bearing on "hold sensitivity" and when the FPE exceeds the gun weigh more than "1.5 fpe per pound" things start to get entertaining!

While lower springer fpe does make the guns more pleasant to shoot and less hold sensitive, this is offset to a degree by the loopier trajectory of the pellet and more wind drift that makes the holdover and windage "guesstimation" more critical when the pellet gets to the target. As with "all things springer" there are trade offs and compromises to be made!

Who said it' MADE by a German company? It does not appear on the Walther website - that seems to be all PCP. They could just as easily be paid by some Chinese company to use their name. It's a pretty common practice.

A 14fpe Springer can be tuned to be crazy accurate too. My Diana 36 .177 with a Maccari kit tuned by Bob & Gene (founders of GTA) is one of those 14fpe guns.

My 2nd most accurate Springer is the Diana 48 .22 which is also fully/pro-tuned and has a lighter trigger. It's a 19.5fpe gun and it's 1-hole at 25yds, and 1/3" at 35yds no matter what pellet I use. It's actually a tie with my 13fpe Diana 34 Premium .20 T06 w/Lothar Walther barrel and a Vortek kit (no other tuning or mods).

Would a well tuned 12fpe gun group 1/32-1/16" better than a 14fpe gun at 35yds? Probably, but you 'd barely notice the difference unless you were competing in shooting matches. I don't hunt at 50yds unless it's a Starling so I don't need that extra 1/32" accuracy. I put a cap at 35yds for hunting and my guns have more than enough accuracy for that kind of shooting.

Surfing the Pyramyd site, their write ups say the Terrus is made in Germany. They say the Parrus is German engineered. That doesn't really say where it's made.

The suspension on my car is German engineered, too. The car was built in Canada.

I bet the bones are there for a nice rifle. I would be hopeful to see 19 fpe with a soft tune. That would make a very sweet magnum rifle.

Until someone shows the Made in German, assume this could be Chinese made. Somewhere I was sure I read it had a LW barrel. Can't find that now either. I'd pass on this on unless it's Made in Germany and has a LW barrel at $300.00. JMHO

On Amazon it says LW barrel. But I have yet to see made in Germany, just engineered like others have found. "Made in Germany" is a big thing these days, if the Parrus was 100% made there it would be plastered all over the ads. I'm thinking I will wait until some refurb 48s come around again for $300, IMO the best Kraut bang for my buck.

The Terrus is made in Germany. Here the proof. My friend just order a Parrus .22

I have the Terrus and know it claims made in Germany, but mine had/has a forearm stock screw cross threaded, the stock don't fit the action and flairs out at the front, needs some wood removed, and the barrel will only shoot JSB exacts without shotgunning 4-6 inch groups at 20 yards. I have not done much with it, Just have not got around to sending it to Umarex.

I know that the stocks can be made elsewhere and still maintain Made in Germany. Several manufactures have stocks made by Minelli in Italy.
