A P-Rod with a LDC, AR style stock adapter, Bigger T-port, a 10, 11, 12 pound spring, A D-pinger, and a 3X9 BUGBUSTER.  Supper light weight and short, plenty of power out to 50 yards with JSB 16.XX domes or Polymags.  A talon SS in .22, add a optics and a No bounce hammer from Talon tunes.  Both US made rigs great for 50 or so yards if you want to go past that I like a .25 something.

+1 on a .22 Mrod pair that with a WAR SSG and MM hammer forged barrel (if it's not accurate) and you'll never need another .22 again. Should keep you around $750 total depending on how much the gun will cost you and that's if you even need the hammer forged barrel

I still say a Mrod in .22 is risky business given the history(some still recent) of their .22 barrels.  If you were to go .177 or .25, I'd say the Mrod is great way to go.  That's just the opinion of someone that got one of those barrels less than a year ago though. 

Since you say .22, then you could go with an AT-44 QE and have scope and pellet money left over.  They are a bit heavy though, and not for everyone.  They are capable of 35-40 fpe out of the box, and are plenty quiet.  With a little modding of the existing parts, they really wake up.  They usually shoot sub dime groups out of the box at 25 yards with the right pellet.

Another highly recommended option would be a Sumatra carbine, but you'd have to buy an LDC to quieten it down.  The Sumatras are capable of big power, and have a power adjustment on them.  They come highly recommended by many folks on here.

A third option would be to scan the classifieds.  There are all kinds of guns that would fit the bill that pop up in there.

The Sumatra carbine is my choice for squirrel hunting. It is backyard friendly with an LDC. Has adjustable power. Mine is .25, but .22 would be fine as well. I have an M-rod and BT65 that I haven't used at all this year. Since weight is an issue for me, I pick the Sumatra every time.

Hmm well for $800 you could get a .22 M-rod and then send it to
WAR for a rebarrel and SSG and its going to be hard to get better rifle,
another option I would do is having it tuned and regulator installed by Motorhead
(I've always wanted a rifle tuned by him...)

either way you end up with a nice rifle with an excellent trigger
that can be setup how you like it and will be tuned to your specs
and have excellent accuracy.

for another rifle to look at is the BSA R10 mk2 although it will stretch your budget a little
I think its more like $900-950 from PA with the 10% coupon.

+1 on the AT44 QE. If this will be your first pcp, you will get a lot of gun for the money and leave you enough for a decent scope, pellets and an air source system.

That money will get you into an MrodAir P12 if you are interested in a Bullpup. You will not be dissappointed in the accuracy or shot count, and build quality is very good.

I've got a .25 Sumatra carbine & a .22 Rainstorm-I. Both are great hunting rifles. Neither are what I'd call backyard friendly without some modifications. But adding an LDC to a .22 Sumatra carbine would really quiet her down. Plus, with the power wheel you can adjust your velocity, depending on your prey & at what distances you're shooting. The Sumatra is lighter & famous for not being pellet picky also.

  go with the Mrod for a hunting rifle.why do you feel a 22 is needed?i have both 22 and 25 and they both nice...look here in classified section sometimes there are deals.when getting a 22 you play the lottery with the barrel.
  I make shots at 55-60 yards with my hammer forged barrel on chipmunks almost daily.SSG a good item to get from WAR for Mrod...

Thanks everyone I actually ended up pickin a Condor in .22. Shes still runnig a little hot at the moment (44Fpe) but I'm looking for the right combo with a heavy pellet to slow it down a bit.

That is hot!  You're probably looking for a pellet upwards of 25gr, it will  be interesting to see what you settle on.

I am curious also . A one loader, I like the look but one pellet at a time out hunting I cant do it no way..
