Hatsan Edge Piston Question for scp52

Steve,
I don't want to hijack the thread
http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=107479.0
Just a curiosity about the red plastic dots, is it a mod piston? or aftermarket replacement? or a vintage Edge? Would you explain?
Today, I've been re-lube my Hatsan Edge and put fairly amount of paste to eliminate pinging noise. The paste won't last, I prefer some damper like these red hard plastics. I may not able to mod until a warranty expire.

Those are JM's Old School Buttons from Air Rifle Headquarters (ARH) The yellow piston seal on there also came from ARH. The buttons get superglued in place, one exactly opposite the cocking slot because when you cock the rifle, it pushes the piston up and that top one keeps the piston from possibly digging into the top of the tube. The other 2 go roughly where you see mine and then after the glue dries you use 400 grit wet/dry sand paper to sand them down until you have a just snug fit when you slide the piston back into the receiver.
Between the piston seal on the front and those buttons on the back, it helps stop the piston from wobbling and also center it which helps with recoil and accuracy. As far as the moly paste, just a little bit around the seal and try not to get any on the front of it and a little on each of the buttons is all you need.
Check the forum Library, there' a section on tuning and lubing and what to use but you'll find a lot of people use the ARH Super Moly paste. There are also quite a few threads in the gate on tuning and lubing. For the ARH stuff:

Piston Seals:

Moly Paste:

Hope this helps

That's very helpful. I already studied lubing stuff on the seal. I just applied paste on the bottom end to minimize pinging because it's very sticky. These buttons should be my solution next time tuning. I didn't expect Krazy Glue is that good for this purpose.
Thank you for "Old School Buttons" lesson.

Thanks and the link for the Moly is fixed.
Part of your pinging is because if you've had your rifle apart, you saw how the end of the ram goes inside the piston and you'll always get a little metal to metal noise because of the end of that rod hitting inside the milled hole it sits in inside the piston. Dabbing a little moly in there helps a bit but doesn't totally get rid of it.
And yep, super glue is how the buttons are applied although there's a real fancy way of milling the holes and using delrin inserts but I don't have that kind of equipment so superglue and buttons...lol

That's what I thought you drill or maybe tap for those buttons.
I had some paste on that rod's tip first day cleanup. First and second rifle didn't make this noise but this one does. I may have to inspect it again tomorrow. I shouldn't have put them back together too soon, another repeat day tomorrow :-)
Today, I mostly spent time on a trigger, smoothing or buffing some area on those sears. Somehow, I can't get use to short trigger pull so I put a stock screw back on. Every time when I get to the second stage, I loose a concentration. It's one of those thing that I start off the wrong way and become a habit. I guess I get use to whatever Hatsan Edge standard. After more than thousand rounds among three rifles, it's hard to change a habit :-)
